Now, Uganda Youth Development Link (UYDEL) in collaboration Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) are in the process of establishing coalitions that bring together community sectors to solve local alcohol, drug and substance abuse problems.
The organisations are engaging the youth, parents, business people, media, educationists, religious organizations, and others, to jointly tackle the problem.
Recently, a two-day workshop was held at Kampala Kolping hotel, Bombo Road, training locals from nearby Bwaise in building local community coalitions for drug prevention.
The pilot project will deal with Kawempe, Bwaise and Nansana. The trainees will go through 11 modules in two years with the aim of raising a community of people against drug and substance abuse.
Rogers Kasirye, the UYDEL CEO, said it is time to use locals to solve their own problems.
“The solutions have to be adopted to the norms, languages, cultures of the community,” added Colber Prosper, one of the facilitators with CADCA.
