The Triplets Ghetto Kids

And the stars of the day were none other than Uganda’s dancing children, The Triplets Ghetto Kids, who put on a showstopping performance that has since gone viral.

In the presentation, the team of six children selected out of the 30 that Dauda Kavuma takes care of in Makindye-Nakinyuguzi, danced to a seamless blend of Lingala, contemporary and afro pop.

The crowd and judges were clearly blown away by the performance, with new addition Bruno Tonioli, 67, who is better known from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, even pressing the golden buzzer mid-performance, a first in the show’s history.

In a show of classy professionalism, the visibly excited children did not miss a step, dancing to the end through the pouring golden confetti as the congregation went wild and cheered them on.

The children continue to fly Uganda’s flag all over the world; last year they were flown by the World Cup organisers to Qatar, after their football-themed dance moves again went viral on the Internet. They have also featured in music videos with international music stars including French Montana and Tekashi 6ix9ine.

The golden buzzer that Tonioli pressed sends the dance troupe directly through to the live finale, sparing them a grueling competitive process that will see many acts get sent home.

The children jumped and danced for joy on stage as scores of people watching in Uganda and beyond admitted on social media that they were moved to tears of joy by the children’s infectious innocence, confidence and passion for what they did.
