Singer Sheebah Karungi has had a great 2016 with so many hit songs.
Now she is ending the year with being nominated 11 times in the 5th edition of the annual HiPiPo awards. The finale will take place on February 4, 2017.
Sheebah is nominated under categories such as artiste of the year, best female artiste, song of the year, video of the year, and album of the year among others. The big question will be whether Sheebah will win the artiste of year award currently held by David Lutalo.
The other top nominees include Ziza Bafana, Radio and Weasel, David Lutalo, Bebe Cool and Eddy Kenzo. In another of the highly-contested categories, Sheebah’s Nkwatako will battle it out with Bebe Cool’s Kabulengane, Navio’s Njogereza, Musawo by Winnie Nwagi, Tuli Majje by Ziza Bafana and King Saha’s Mwana Gwe.

The awards will have 35 categories including an additional one for music icon of the decade. This recognises an artiste who has stood out and been a source of inspiration in Uganda’s music industry for the past 10 years. Juliana Kanyomozi, Mesach Semakula and Bobi Wine are some of the 12 nominees in this category.
According to the awards’ CEO Innocent Kawooya, this year’s nomination process had at least 30,000 nomination forms filled and submitted by fans, musicians, promoters and the media.
The songs eligible for nominations were those with either audio or video or both, released between November 1, 2015 and November 1, 2016. Voting is already underway through the HiPipo website and SMS mobile platforms.
