The fourth edition of Zzina awards saw Sheebah Karungi take home three awards for best female artiste, artiste of the year and best artiste fans team – “Sheebaholics”.
The awards ceremony, held at Theatre La Bonita last Friday, filled the auditorium to capacity and plastic chairs were provided for spill-over revellers. Sheebah’s large entourage had to be given plastic seats near the main stage, as she refused to join the VIP section and chose to sit with her fans.
Just as well, for Sheebah was the night’s big winner and sitting close to the stage saved her mileage!
For 2017, a sports personality award was added, making it 20 categories where voting was done through the Galaxy FM Facebook page. Swengere Family, who won best comedy group, were so surprised by their win in a category that included heavyweights such as Salvado, Ann Kansiime, Mariachi, Alex Muhangi and Mad Rat & Chiko.
Swengere wanted to perform their skit on fans’ urging, but due to time constraints, organisers declined their offer. A brief power blackout plunged the theatre into darkness and the sound system may not have been the best but, nonetheless, Galaxy FM pulled off a memorable fete.
