Surprising, because Shaka Zulu is synonymous with local Ugandan cuisine, but proprietor Umar Kikungwe says just like customers earlier demanded for the luwombo (stew steamed in banana leaves) at their Bugolobi branch, the demand
for fast foods has been high, hence the ‘Chicken Affairs’ section at Bwebajja.

But Ugandans, why demand fast foods from a well-known local food restaurant when there are fast foods restaurants all over? Anyway, the restaurant will still serve their famed local food, while the ‘chicken affairs’ section caters to the ‘junk’ food.

“Bwebajja Chapter is a little bit different from Bugolobi, after several clients of ours coming to Bugolobi and asking for fast foods, we thought of an idea of a fast-food restaurant. Standing behind me is Shaka Zulu food restaurant and standing beside me is Chicken Affairs, a child that has been born to compete with KFC,” said Kikungwe, a law graduate, during the launch last week.

Kikungwe says he has no regrets over abandoning his law degree for cooking, and dreams of having chain restaurants across Uganda.

Local food was served at the launch, with the flavour-bursting local chicken and perfectly tenderised goat’s meat standing out.

There was no way to compare with KFC, as the Chicken Affairs is yet to officially open.
