“Miss Tourism Uganda is not just a government project; it’s a partnership. We urge the private sector to join us in supporting the girl child, boosting confidence, and addressing the social challenges.”
Minister of state for Wildlife and Antiquities, Martin Bahinduka Mugarra made these remarks during the official launch of the 13th edition of Miss Tourism Uganda at the Uganda Media Centre on March 5.
“This year’s focus is conservation and cultural values that are fading over time. We must protect our heritage and empower young women to be ambassadors of conservation and other tourism ideals; we also need to encourage male participation to widen the scope of awareness,” Mugarra said.
This year’s theme is “I Am My Culture,” which aims to highlight Uganda’s diverse heritage. The competition will tour 12 regions, including West Nile, Teso, Busoga, Buganda, Karamoja, Ankole, South Uganda, Fort Portal, Hoima, and Northern Uganda, among others, in search of the next Tourism ambassador.
After the four months of regional tours, the organizers have set September 5 for the grand finale at Kampala Serena hotel.
