Nestled right opposite Old Kampala mosque near Costco supermarket, Puvana Café & Restaurant may be modest in size, but it certainly delivers a flavourful punch.

This charming eatery, which prides itself on serving the authentic taste of Turkey, somehow accommodates a bustling team of four waiters, a dedicated chef, and a watchful Turkish supervisor, all skillfully maneuvering within the limited space.

The layout may feel a bit cramped, especially when the warmth from the kitchen subtly seeps into the dining area. Yet, what Puvana Café lacks in space; it more than makes up for with a rich culinary experience that keeps diners coming back for more.

Despite its central location and heavy traffic, Puvana Café offers an incredibly affordable menu, a delightful surprise for such a prime spot. As expected, Turkish staples like shawarmas, waffles and fajitas are plentiful, but there’s more to discover.

The golden-brown chips are a standout, their rich aroma teasing your senses even before you take a bite. Soft, perfectly seasoned, and delightfully smooth, they arrive at your table looking like pure comfort on a plate.

The option to pair them with rice and a serving of the tastiest gravy, infused with tomato paste and complemented by creamy mayonnaise on the side, may sound unconventional, but the combination works beautifully, delivering a satisfying burst of flavour.

And then, there are the chicken wings. While they may not be as juicy as some would prefer, their impressive size and unique flavour make them worth trying. Prepared with a distinct recipe that foregoes excessive breading or heavy marinades, these wings are all about straightforward, hearty preparation.

Their slightly firm texture might make them better suited for a stew, but their taste remains undeniably appealing.
