Filmmaker Stanley Nsamba has made his mark with short films; he has contributed content to two new short film festivals in Kampala and to different global film festivals.
Last year, his most famous short film, Silent Depression was selected for more than 45 local and international screenings. No wonder Nsamba is sticking with what he knows best.
He has continued making short films as a way of garnering attention and to inspire young filmmakers through his Ghetto Film Project. According to him, short films are cinematic expressions that don’t need the highest budget to make; for instance, his first short, Crafts: The Value of Life was worth Shs 25,000.
In his latest offering, Time Irreversible he has put together a big cast including Hellen Lukoma, Jayant Maru, Deception’s Neeraj Vishwakarma and Kidron Nabende.
Clearly, this was going to be different. Time Irreversible, is about Opio, a middle-aged man who uses his charm to get a one-night stand with a Facebook friend, Jane.
The film starts at the point of regret that he had forgotten to use protection. His “what if I had done things differently” lays the ground for the film, and being a short one, the writer tries out a number of cliff hangers that he quickly gets rid of.
Directed by Nsamba and produced by Vishwakarma, Time Irreversible is a breath of fresh air; it has more of a feel of a drama than a music video that had engulfed his past productions.
