Victoria Nabagereka, the director Miss Earth Uganda, said this edition aims to empower young Ugandan women with knowledge and a platform to create a sustainable difference which helps in the protection and preservation of environment.
“Miss Earth Uganda is a beauty for a cause pageant with our cause being the environment, we have gone ahead to partner different environmental and non-environmental bodies to see that we bring this cause to life,” she said.
This year’s sponsors include National Forestry Authority, National Environment Management Authority and Chimpanzee Trust. Others are Unite For The Environment, National Environment Students Organization, Youth Go Green, Rotaract Earth Initiative, Nanjing restaurant, Crystals international school and Delta television.
This year will have 14 contestants representing their districts; namely Adjumani, Arua, Gulu, Iganga, Jinja, Kampala, Lira, Luweero, Mbarara, Ntugamo, Pakwach, Soroti, Tororo and Wakiso.

Nabagereka said the girls will undergo a two-week boot camp that will tackle issues such as the environment, public speaking and onstage presentation, among others. The contestants will also get involved with humanitarian and environmental causes.
“We are eagerly looking forward to this competition,” Nabagereka said.
Sandra Akello and Priscilla Achieng won the first two editions of the pageant respectively and went on to represent Uganda at the global Miss Earth competition, where each scooped a gold medal in the Best National Costume from Africa category.
