Sometimes you may appear to be going forward, but when you are actually on your way back to square one.
Other times everything may appear to be going wrong and backwards, when you are actually right on track. Even the Bible says it, that there is a way that seems right, when its end is only destruction (Proverbs 14:12).
I was reading the papers and following the story of the former journalist who was appointed minister, and months into her term she was engulfed in a corruption scandal that even landed her in jail. Soon after, she was dropped from cabinet and she is still battling that case in court.
I wondered what could be going through her mind now. This was a successful journalist by all standards, and then she was appointed minister and possibly thought she had made it – finally. Only for it to turn out to be her downfall. I feel for her.
It took me back to the analogy of a Boeing Dreamliner, compared to a small single-engine plane, and a helicopter. Those three aircraft have totally different takeoff procedures; one just has to lift off from its helipad and go (helicopter), the other only has to point its nose in the direction it is headed and take off, but the Boeing has first of all to be pushed off the gate with help of a tug. In the analogy of life, that must be humiliating.
Not only that, but the Boeing will also have to slowly crawl all the way back and out of sight to the end of the runway at a boring pace, in the opposite direction. But then once in position, that Boeing will find leverage, point in the right direction and thrust off at thundering speed, then lift off faster and further than the other two aircraft combined!
And so is life. Don’t give up when you feel like you are crawling in the wrong direction; it is the right procedure. And don’t be too cocky when you feel like you are on the right path; it could turn out to be the most disastrous one you ever took.
Bottom line: enquire from God be- fore the big decisions in your life. That way, even when your life seems to be crawling in the ‘wrong’ direction, you will have the peace of mind knowing it is just a matter of leverage – and time [in Mugisha Muntu’s voice].
