Brighton Ahereza, more commonly known as Mr Very Good, has always aspired to be famous.
Even during his childhood, he dreamed of being recognised and of entertaining people. He simply did not know how he would achieve this ambition. Then TikTok emerged.
For Ahereza, the platform provided an opportunity to present himself to the public without the need for a large production team or a major media outlet. All that was required was his telephone, his ideas, and the confidence to create content.
“I have always wanted to be famous since I was a child,” he states.
His TikTok journey has since established him as a familiar face among users, particularly in western Uganda. His videos are primarily centred on comedy and the kind of simple, casual humour with which people can easily identify.
He explains that his style was also influenced by observing other TikTok creators who began with very little but eventually established significant reputations. Among those whom he admires are Jose Chakala and Mickey Seems To Funny.
However, the journey has not always been without difficulty. Ahereza says he has had to contend with individuals reporting his content and others attempting to gain access to his TikTok account.
At a certain point, protecting his account became as important as creating content. He responded by enabling two-step verification, using a stronger password, and appealing to TikTok whenever he encountered problems.
Then came the phrase that has become closely associated with him: “Very Good.”
What began as his personal slogan has gained popularity among people in his region. Today, the phrase is sometimes used when someone performs well or simply when people wish to acknowledge something positively.
For Ahereza, witnessing people use the phrase outside his videos is an indication that his content is reaching beyond the screen. Interestingly, the individual behind the humorous videos has a very different professional life.
Ahereza is an engineer by profession and works with Lato Milk. When he is not working or creating TikToks, he enjoys swimming.
He states that people who meet him in person are often surprised because the person they see on TikTok is not quite the same person they encounter in everyday life.
On social media, he is the casual and playful Mr Very Good. Away from the camera, he is a professional focused on his career. For now, Ahereza is determined to discover how far his comedy can take him.
His greater ambition is to become one of Uganda’s leading TikTok comedians, while placing Western Uganda on the entertainment map. He also wishes to use his platform to advocate for people who may not have a voice and to encourage young people to believe in themselves.
It is still early, but for a young man who grew up dreaming of being famous, TikTok has provided Ahereza with a place to begin. And judging by the manner in which “Very Good” is catching on, people are beginning to take notice.
