You are literally cut off from the outside once inside this restaurant – with your only interaction coming from hearing the running engines of vehicles stuck in the ever-present traffic jam on Kireka-Jinja road.
From the dress code of the waitresses and cashiers, it explicitly says without words that this is a pork and alcohol free restaurant. Indeed, the menu says just as much – with smoothies dominating the drinks section. There is not much variety in the food section. It is limited to just chips and rice (vegetable or pilao). These come with any of fish fingers, chicken, liver, vegetable curry or beef.
Given the ambience of the place, the prices are relatively pocket-friendly with the costliest meal (pilao and chicken) going for Shs 19,000.
Vegetable rice and fish fillet
The waitresses warn you that your order will take between five and 10 minutes and while you are waiting, they serve you with a complimentary fruit starter of cold pineapples and water lemon slices.
Indeed my order of vegetable rice and fish fillet took exactly 10 minutes and was served steaming hot, in that even the plate nearly burnt the waitress as she attempted to carry it off the serving tray.
You could pick each basmati rice grain off the plate if you wanted – signifying how well cooked the rice was. The tender soft fillets seemed to have been baked in too much lemon, which may not augur well for those who don’t like lemon. It is served with tasty bean gravy whose aroma strikes right away as it’s being brought to the table.
