Grammy-winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum is back in Uganda to headline the dfcu Jazz in the Pearl Festival, scheduled for this Saturday, May 10, at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Known for his unforgettable saxophone solo on Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”, Whalum is set to dazzle jazz lovers in what promises to be a night of world-class music and soulful storytelling.
“This will be my third time performing in Uganda, and the excitement is as high as ever,” said the 66-year-old American jazz legend.
“Each performance feels brand new. I can’t wait to serenade my fans once again.”
Whalum will be joined on stage by some of Uganda’s finest jazz artists, including Isaiah Katumwa, Tshaka Mayanja, and the Black Roots Academy of Soul, adding a vibrant local flavour to the international lineup.
Organized by dfcu Bank, the Jazz in the Pearl Festival marks more than just a musical celebration’s part of the bank’s broader commitment to nurturing Uganda’s creative industries and fostering community through the arts.
