The fourth edition of the Kampala Fashion Week is underway at Kampala Forest resort, a scenic lush location on Muyenga hill.

Showcases from over 12 designers are expected to hit the runway during Uganda’s biggest fashion event. The event started yesterday, and will continue until the final showcase tomorrow.

Yesterday was the finale of the fourth edition of the annual Skilled Expressive Entrepreneurial Designers (SEED) show. The SEED show is a collaboration between the US embassy in Kampala, Ras Kasozi and Kampala Fashion Week.

Charles Ssemanda of Say-Manda, last year’s winner, will be opening day two’s showcases. Other designers tonight (day two) are Cirra-Sue, Bayimba capsule collection, Halisi, NFKA (winner SEED show season two) and Kas Wear (Ras Kasozi).

Eguana Kampala & Thandi, Kahvarah, Katungulu Mwendwa, Catherine & Sons, Gloria Wavamunno & Helena and Nadrey Laurent will showcase tomorrow.

The fashion week was born out of the need to showcase the best of Ugandan designs and give the citizens a better appreciation of fashion. It has since attracted the international fashion community.

This year’s fashion week has been themed ‘Community’ and will see the event embedded into community through the selection of the Kampala Forest resort that provides a scenic view of Kampala city.

Previous editions have taken place at the Kololo ceremonial grounds, Acacia mall and The Square for the first, second and third editions respectively.

There is no complete fashion week without a worthwhile after- party; thus, Uganda Waragi, the event’s partners for two years in a row, have that covered.

A wide selection of cocktails and deejays have been lined up in what has been dubbed ‘the taboo lounge’. Tickets cost Shs 30,000, Shs 50,000 and Shs 100,000 for the standing, second and first rows respectively.
