Winnie Nwangi

The first of the monthly music offerings had Winnie Nwagi taking center stage, performing beautiful medleys of some of her best hits and revealing the inspiration behind the songs.

Nwagi’s voice was accompanied by an acoustic set comprising  Myko Ouma, Pascal Mugambe, Augustine Mukisa, Joseph Sax and Enock Lugamba on guitar, bass, drums, saxophone and keyboard, respectively.

Nwagi kicked off her set with Show Me, followed by Musawo, Matala, Amaaso, and Sasi Ku Nyama. The online gig is about music and conversations with the audience; so, Nwagi did not shy away from topics that were a tad controversial, such as the now infamous incident between her and her house help where people accused her of mistreatment.

“I will never forget that saga till the day I die. People marked me as a bad person because of that maid. But, you shouldn’t talk about things you don’t know. I have been so good to maids but those people [maids] are so ungrateful. Of course there are good ones, but if you land on a bad one, you should just part ways. What I am trying to say is, be kind,” she told those who rushed to judge.

Nwagi’s episode was charmingly candid and honest, connecting her to her audiences as she delved into the topic of plus-size women in showbiz and how she overcame her insecurities.

“Since I started music, people would always judge me. They used to think a thick person can’t dance in videos. We used to see skinny girls but when I came into this industry, things changed. I brought the fire and energy. I actually think thick women are better dancers,” she said.

Nwagi went on to praise plus-size women who unapologetically love their bodies and are living the best version of themselves with healthy mindsets.

“People always say that how could a mother like me dress like that; that my clothes are too short. I love to see women love and flaunt their bodies. That is what I do and no one can stop me. That is how I help society with my music, mindset and lifestyle,” she said.

A new episode of the online show will go live at the beginning of every month.
