My church, New Jerusalem Deliverance Centre in Bunamwaya Ngobe, has done this for sixteen years now, where we pray night and day as well as fast, and it truly makes a difference. This year is no different.
Some people struggle with fasting and spend the twelve hours of the daily fast staring at the clock – willing it to tick faster to 6pm – and checking the fridge every few minutes to warn the food therein how and when it shall be eaten. Apart from prayer and devotionals, I like putting aside Christian literature to help pass the time.
This year, I am going with James Kawalya’s book, Delivered From Deep Darkness. I have started reading it and it is an engrossing, powerful piece of literature that I strongly recommend. Last year I watched his YouTube interview with Pastor James Aladiran, a three-hour spiritual rollercoaster that again I recommend everyone should watch.
Kawalya, now a pastor and intercessor, was a satanist and high-ranking African warlock for 24 years, before giving his life to Jesus Christ in 1999. If you want to understand the inner workings of the spirit realm, this is your book.
If you don’t believe that witchcraft, sorcery, satanism or even deliverance for that matter, exist, then I challenge you to read Kawalya’s book and watch that YouTube interview. His testimony will change you and the way you pray and relate to God. The book, which I bought online, is equally captivating – even scary in parts, so much so that in his introduction, Kawalya advises his readers to seal themselves in the blood of Jesus first.
I did just that, but still did not sleep a wink the first night I read it in bed – not because it is unputdownable, but be- cause it really gives you the shudders. Which is why it is your perfect companion during the January fast. When you are done with your work, Bible study and prayers, digest this incredible literature, and before you know it, another day of fasting will be fruitfully ticked off the calendar.
What I guarantee you is that Kawalya’s works will change the way you approach salvation, prayer and intercession.
