After a long string of Nigerian artistes performing at the cricket oval in Lugogo, Ugandans seemed thirsty for one of their own and Fik’s show organized by Unik Star Agency was a huge success.
Gates were open from 5 pm and by 7 pm the venue was already full. At 8 pm performances got underway with Fresh Kid, Vamos 256, Martha Mukisa, Mikie Wine, Zex Bilangilangi, Fille Mutoni, Levixone and Zulitums.
At around 10 pm, Fik, clad in white, stepped onto the stage and started performing his songs from Pistol, Kutama, to Mafia and others. He also performed Majje, with Azawi joining him on stage.
The highlight of the show was when former presidential candidate Bobi Wine arrived with his wife and NUP crew and due to the crowd euphoria, the show was momentarily paused. Geosteady, who had been performing when Bobi arrived, even left the stage when the crowd stopped paying him any attention.
Bobi Wine’s songs were played for like five minutes until the situation returned to normal and the show continued smoothly. Fik heaped praise on Bobi Wine, saying he is a great inspiration to their generation.
However, critics say the show was disorganized from start to finish and word has it that the stage organizer Steve Jean got pissed and left the event when management failed to follow his plans.
But with Steve Jean’s Fenon Records on sound and lighting, Fik’s concert still went down as a great success and he even tried to sing to a live band. The show ended at midnight and it was a reaffirmation after that big Azawi concert, that Nigerians are not about to shut down the local industry any time soon.
