Brian Ahumuza, popularly known as Abryanz, was one of the winners at the glamorous Young Achievers Awards held on Saturday night at Kampala Serena hotel.

The awards identify and recognize young people in Uganda that have demonstrated excellence, innovation and leadership in their respective fields.

Organisers recognized Abryanz for his clothing stores’ brand name Abyanz Collection.

He won the Young Achievers Award for Creative Arts (Fashion). He had been nominated alongside Anita Beryl of Beryl Quoture and Brenda Maraka.

“I would like this win to be an inspiration to every young person out there that you can reach whatever goal you set your mind to. It is possible,” he said in his acceptance speech.
“Just work hard and never give up.”

For someone with such humble beginnings but managed to keep his dream alive, this was a worthy recognition. I am privileged to have met him some five years ago when he was starting out and his brand has since grown leaps and bounds.

Having risen from a cleaner to vendor of clothes bought from Owino to now owning a couple of shops is an inspiration to young people to have creative ideas, especially in the fashion world.

Need I mention that the awards that started humbly now have a continental recognition attracting guests and designers from allover Africa?

You need a thick skin to survive in this fashion. Whether you are a collector and entrepreneur like Ahumuza, a designer a makeup artist, a writer, or a stylist.

We celebrate every day’s success. That is why this is such a worthy recognition.
