If you have kept an eye on Uganda’s comedy scene, chances are you are familiar with Dr Hilary Okello and Okello Okello.
These two have been instrumental in shaping Uganda’s comedy landscape for the younger generation. This fresh wave of talent is not only breaking away from traditional formats but also bringing new, bold approaches to comedy that are transforming how Ugandan audiences experience and connect with humour.
Last Friday, Dr Hilary Okello held the third edition of his comedy special under the theme “Uganda Must Laugh”, at the National theater, as stand-up comedy lovers turned up in big numbers to support the Langi comedian.
The show featured Leo Kyefuga, Anderson Mark Sejjemba, Cotilda Inapo and Salvado, who made a surprise appearance and took the crowd to cloud nine with his jokes. At 8pm, the main man himself Hillary Okello took over the stage, cracking jokes about day-to-day happenings of life.
National theatre was filled beyond capacity and it was an evening of clean, family content from everyone who performed, and there was no soliciting money/tips from the crowd, which usually kills a good show.
Okello kicked off his act with his experience the first time he flew business class. He joked about the pain of buying an old car. As the night went on, he made sure the crowd stayed entertained, causing laughter when he recounted the nightmare of a Kampala traffic jam, especially when the presidential convoy is expected.
The audience gleefully ate up every joke. The laughter, energy, and memorable jokes made ‘Uganda Must Laugh’ the perfect stress reliever from a politically charged week.

He is a Lango comedian. Not a Langi comedian. Use the plurals the right way.For example Okello is a Lango so is Ojok they are Langi who were born in Lango⁹
Keep it up okello till the day you will be king of comedy in Africa
So far the only Ugandan comedian I love who really makes me laugh until I can hardly see because of tears in my eyes. Dr, thanks.
