Last year in Sunday traffic at a junction, a huge SUV rammed into my idling car from the back, totally shattering it.
Incensed, I jumped out of the car fuming, ready to go to war with this reckless, mad driver, but the man who jumped out of the monster truck floored me with how humble, remorseful and gentlemanly he was.
I was lost for words, and we amicably exchanged details and he fixed my car without hustle. A few days later I was watching TV and voila! There he was on a Christian TV, a pastor, no less, engrossed in the worship and prayer.
I thought, okay, that should explain how meek and calm he was after the inexplicable accident! Fast forward to last week; I am approaching the Nakawa traffic lights, and a car is coming behind me at full throttle, blaring the horn and swerving to pass me at an interesting speed for someone going to stop at the red lights ahead.
As he drove by, I saw the number plate and lo, behold! It was the same car that smashed mine months ago! If pastor drives like this, no wonder he failed to stop in time and rammed into my car!
As the lights turned green and off he went like the devil was after him, I chuckled to myself, because I have always thought that people who drive around town like lunatics are actually bad people.
I can attest that this man may drive like a crazy Subaru driver (no offence intended, fellow Subaru drivers), but he is actually a very decent, well respected human being! It would have been very interesting if he had knocked me for a second time though… Anyway, who are you judging by the way they dress, look, drive, talk – or what they possess?
People will shock you the day you discover they are not what you see on the outside. Seemingly good people can turn out to be absolute evil when you get to know them, and the ones that look ‘off’ can be really good people if only you gave them half a chance.
That is why we need to pray for the spirit of discernment when making friends, starting relationships and making important decisions. I am one of those people who judge people, especially, by the way they drive. I think that was a subtle message from God to: stop!
