Dax Vibez

Coming from a musical family and being the brother to Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine is not an easy hype to live up to.

But DAX VIBEZ, real name Ivan Bugembe Ssentamu, is steadily carving out his own path in the industry. Dax opens up about his music journey and the challenges of living under the spotlight, while trying to shine in his famous brothers’ shadows.

You may not be new to the industry, but you still seem to be the hottest new kid on the music block. How does that make you feel?

I feel like I haven’t reached where I’m supposed to be yet, because I haven’t given it my all. That said, I’m grateful that people are already happy with what I’ve done so far.

There’s still a lot more to come; they should expect even bigger things. Coming from a family of successful musicians must be a privilege.

Did that inspire you in any way as you were starting your career?

It’s inspiring, yes, but also quite challenging. The bar is set high, and people tend to judge you based on those around you. Still, I draw a lot of motivation from my family’s journey in music.

Some people, like Bebe Cool, have said you’re the most vocally gifted among your singing brothers, especially after your song Believe with Vinka. Do you agree?

I don’t compare myself with others. I only compare myself with who I was before. I believe I’m the best version of Dax Vibez now, and next year I’ll be even better. Everyone has their unique style, and maybe Bebe Cool is just a fan of mine; that’s his opinion.

You seem very strategic with your music releases, allowing fans to take in one song at a time…

I like to give each song its moment. Every release is like a case study. I observe how the public reacts and learn what they connect with most. It also gives me space to enjoy my own music while preparing for the next one.

All your recent collaborations have been successful. How do you choose whom to work with?

Music is spiritual to me; so, there is no formula. It’s all about the vibe, the connection. I collaborate with artistes who have something I’m looking for, whether it’s energy, creativity, or inspiration.

Earlier this year, you announced your maiden solo concert slated for August 29. What led you to make that bold move?

Every artiste dreams of having their own concert. Last year, I felt like I finally built the capacity. I looked at all the songs I had created, even those I had not yet released and realized I was ready.

This August, the show will mark the beginning of a new chapter for me. The concert is at Hotel Africana and not Lugogo cricket oval.

Did you fear the bigger venue?

Africana feels like the right starting point for me. I don’t really know if it’s big or small, but I believe it’s a good place to begin. It’s my maiden concert, and it will help me gauge how far my music has reached.

What should your fans expect?

They should expect the absolute best. I have been waiting for this moment, and most people have only seen 50 per cent of what I can do. At the concert, they will see 70 per cent; everything is in high gear!

Your career is rising fast. How are you handling the pressure?

I’m really thankful to my team for their support. Also, I make time to learn more about the music business. That helps a lot. I’m not overwhelmed; I’m actually enjoying the journey.

Most of your recent song releases have been singles. Should fans expect an album soon?

Yes! I’ve been dropping singles to keep the vibe fresh and stay connected to my fans, but an album is definitely coming. I’m working on something that reflects my growth, my sound, and my story. Expect fire collaborations, deep storytelling, and solid vibes.
