“We give them a direct market here for their products. We realized that some of them stop supplying in the middle of a contract because they no longer have enough material to produce items. This is a way of bringing our clients together to support [them],” said Sylvia Nabatanzi Zaripova, managing director, Zaffe Creations, at the inaugural charity catwalk event.
Nabatanzi showcased kids’ collections alongside other designers, including Pasco Losanganya Kikunguru and Colline Harriet Amule. They showcased a wide range of outfits to the delight of the guests. Some 99 per cent of the clothes were set in African print and ready to wear.
The styles, textures and cuts cut across the ages. While the sizes were for children, it was noticeable that some would really look great in adult sizes as well.

Some parents went away with a couple of outfits for the little ones. While some children looked like they had taken time to practise their catwalks and poses, others, especially the younger ones, showed cases of stage fright.
But the applause from the audience and support of the event’s producers was enough for them to strut it successfully. Also on display and sale were home décor, accessories and crafts made by the groups that Zaffe Creations supports.
