Jackie Rebecca Nanyonjo with family members

After introducing her fiancé at their Bwebajja home, Jackie Rebecca Nanyonjo and Philip Mubeezi Kasimbi exchanged matrimonial vows at Namirembe cathedral recently.

Nanyonjo is the daughter of the former consul general of Uganda’s consulate in Dubai, Ambassador Henry Mayega, and Dr Florence Nakayiwa Mayega. Philip is the son of Rev. Canon Silas Musoke and Jannette Idah Musoke.

Clad in a stunning white wedding gown, Jackie was gracefully escorted down the aisle by her parents to a waiting Philip, amidst cheers and jubilation from family, friends and well-wishers.

The groom from Musoke family of Kigoogwa wore a black suit with matching bowtie, and had earlier made his way into the hallowed halls of the cathedral. The ceremony was officiated by retired assistant bishop of Kampala Diocese, Hannington Mutebi.

“In the presence of God and before this congregation, Philip and Jackie have given their consent and made their marriage vows to each other. They have declared their union by the joining of hands and the exchange of rings. I, Bishop Hannington Mutebi, therefore, declare that they are husband and wife,” he pronounced.

He cautioned them on their roles as husband and wife.

“Philip, you are now the head of the family, and it is your duty to protect and provide for your household. For if anyone fails to provide for their own family, they have denied the faith and are worse than an unbeliever,” the officiant said.

The bishop further encouraged Jackie to submit to her husband as unto the Lord and urged both partners to respect each other to build a strong, peaceful and joyful family rooted in faith.

“Philip, as the Bible states in Ephesians, I encourage you to love your wife just as Christ loved the Church. In marriage, husband and wife belong to one another and they begin a new life together in the community and it should not be undertaken carelessly, lightly or selfishly,” he said.

Nanyonjo, who currently works at the Uganda Media Centre, attended Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in international relations. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree.

Similarly, Mubeezi, an alumnus of UCU, obtained a bachelor’s degree in law. The newlyweds later hosted their guests to a sumptuous reception at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
