Dr Lawrence Muganga before awarded

PAP is an intellectual non-partisan discussion forum built on the pillars of Pan-Africanism whose ideal is to revive intellectual discourse with a bias of re-constructing.

On August 26, PAP hosted the 6th edition of its awards at Fairway hotel where Zimbabwean Pan-Africanist Bishop Joshua Marara III Maponga handed Muganga his award in recognition of his efforts in revolutionizing Uganda’s higher education.

Dr Muganga is best known for his thought-provoking reforms in the education sector and uses every public forum to call for an overhaul of the tertiary level of education.

He believes that lecturers in all universities should stop acting as custodians of knowledge, much as in certain instances they might be more informed than the students. He also reasons that students can gradually learn on their own by discovering.

He commended the PAP family for recognizing him among the many educationists on the African continent and vowed not to give up on campaigning for what he describes as ‘authentic learning,’ an education system that prioritizes the child’s capability and skills.

“I have received this award on behalf of all scholars who advocate for any education system that makes sense. I am happy that Bishop Maponga and I speak the same language. Where do you see an education system that has a curriculum yet the real world doesn’t follow the curriculum? A student sits in a classroom Monday to Friday and graduates without experience yet the labour market demands experience. Therefore, an education system that doesn’t mirror real life is dead and we should fight it because it’s not African. Let’s embrace the African indigenous education system which does not provide for cramming,” he said.
