Total E&P donated hardware and software

Makerere, Kyambogo, and Nkumba universities have received specialized education computer software and hardware to strengthen their oil and gas training programs.

The Shs 770 million ($200,000) donation from TotalEnergies EP Uganda and SLB is aimed at building the universities’ capacity to train students with the technical skills required in Uganda’s growing oil and gas sector.

While handing over the equipment, Philippe Groueix, general manager of TotalEnergies EP Uganda, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting educational institutions such as the Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba (UPIK), Makerere, and Kyambogo universities.

“Today’s handover is part of our ongoing efforts to develop local capacity in the oil and gas sector and aligns with our broader commitment to national content development, youth inclusion, and education,” Groueix stated.

To date, over 1,500 Ugandans have received training in various transferable technical skills, earning international certifications that enhance their employability both locally and abroad. As part of the contribution, TotalEnergies EP Uganda provided each university with eight computer workstations, including eight tower servers, 16 monitors, and necessary peripherals. SLB supplied four specialized training software licenses—PetrelTM, Techlog, EclipseTM, and Petromod—installed and configured on each workstation.

In addition, SLB will conduct training sessions in July 2025 for university staff to ensure effective use of the software. The company has also committed to renewing the software licenses annually.

Valerian Pfrimmer, managing director for East and South Africa at SLB, said the donation of their industry-leading platforms will help bridge the gap between classroom theory and field application.
