Issa Matovu has relinquished office as the executive secretary at the Uganda Muslim Teachers Association (UMTA) after serving for seven years.

Handing over office to Abdallah Ntege Saabwe at Kibuli mosque last week, Matovu commended the UMTA board for helping him bring together hundreds of Muslim teachers and Muslim-founded educational institutions, in a bid to improve learning.

Under his tenure, UMTA secured one acre of land in Bweyogerere, which is planned to house the headquarters and a  teacher resource centre, among others. The land was donated by the Uganda Muslim Youth Assembly.

The UMTA board chairman, who also doubles as the head teacher of Kawempe Muslim SS, Hajji Bruhane Mugerwa, appealed to government to support UMTA in her efforts to implement the proposed UMTA house and teacher resource centre projects.
