Anansi spends the day searching for a peaceful mate.

Anansi considers each dog nearby. Anansi considers noisy Scout, angry Hudson, social Sasha, and Old Raffy. Anansi considered Rolly and Pully, the mates who resemble two mops. But Anansi does not find a peaceful mate that day. Anansi slowly trots home alone in the evening.

The morning is shining and bright, and Anansi wakes with a new plan. Today, Anansi will not search for a mate on the road.  Instead, Anansi will seek the advice of wise Old Raffy. Old Raffy has lived many years and has gained much wisdom. Old Raffy knows many dogs. Old Raffy knows many more dogs than

Anansi knows.  Surely, Old Raffy can recommend a peaceful mate for Anansi. After breakfast, Anansi enters the road and passes the house of barking Scout. Anansi passes the home of angry Hudson. Anansi sees the many dogs already gathered in Sasha’s garden. Anansi trots on, heading to Old Raffy’s house.

Old Raffy expects Anansi to visit today. Old Raffy sat on the verandah yesterday.  Old Raffy watched Anansi trotting down the road, looking left and looking right. Raffy saw Anansi stop at each house and consider each dog. Raffy had seen many dogs do this very thing.

Old Raffy knew exactly what Anansi was seeking.  And Old Raffy knew that Anansi would come for advice.  Old Raffy was prepared.  There was a peaceful mate for Anansi.

When Anansi reaches Old Raffy’s verandah, Rocky is there.  Rocky is not too old.  Rocky is not angry or noisy or discontented.  Rocky is clear-headed.

Rocky does not have a mate and is never seen moving around with many dogs.  Old Raffy had selected Rocky for Anansi.  Finally, Anansi has found a peaceful mate.

Oh, how happy Anansi is!  Anansi has searched and now Anansi has found.  Anansi immediately sets off with Rocky following behind.  Anansi wonders if every place will look different when shared with this mate.  Anansi sets off to find out.
