Amos Nzeyi, the chairman of Crown Beverages, thanked government for the gradual reduction of excise duty levies, which he said has made it easy for the company to increase its investments in the country.

He urged the government to fund the refurbishment of the railway lines to ease the transportation and importation of goods into the country.

“If we get our raw materials transported by railway, it cuts production costs by 50 per cent and whatever we produce will become cheaper by 50 per cent, which is an advantage [to the economy].”

“If the standard gauge railway is taking longer to implement, let us in the meantime go back to our old metre gauge and repair it; we buy locomotives cheaply from India and we transport our imports from Naivasha,” Nzeyi said.
