Uganda is expected to sign double taxation agreements with Qatar early next year when President Museveni visits the Middle Eastern state.
According to the official statement, Museveni is expected to visit Qatar during the first quarter of 2017 and would be hosted by Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.
“During the visit, the two heads of state are also expected to ink agreements on avoidance of double taxation, investment protection and cooperation in agriculture, in addition to the bilateral one on labour,” said the statement.

The double taxation agreements – usually between two or more countries – help reduce the amount of tax that an international worker or company must pay, so that they do not have to pay twice on the same in- come.
The signing of the agreements is expected to pave way for Qatari trade and investment inflows to Uganda. Meanwhile, the Qatari government has also pledged to offer Uganda at least 40,000 jobs in 2017 as the country prepares to host the World Cup in 2022.
This would raise the population of Ugandans there from the current 3,000. The pledge was made last week by Dr Eisa Saad Aljafali Al-Naimi, Qatar’s minister of administrative development, labour and social affairs, when he met his Ugandan counterpart Janat Mukwaya in Qatar’s capital Doha.
