Uganda is set to display its investment opportunities at the Uganda-Malaysia Business Forum and Expo 2025, due April 23-24 in Kuala Lumpur, capital city of Malaysia.

The event, aimed at pulling direct foreign investment, enhancing bilateral trade and deepening economic ties in southeastern Asian countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand, is being organized by the Uganda high commission based in Malaysia.

This was disclosed by Betty Oyella Bigombe, Uganda’s high commissioner based in Kuala Lumpur, at a media briefing at the ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala attended by journalists, diplomats and businesspeople.

Describing the event as not just an exhibition but an occasion to strike serious business deals, Bigombe said the expo will be an opportunity to benchmark for the benefit of government-to-government and business-to-business relations.

She expressed happiness that Malaysia’s chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2025 would facilitate Uganda to expand and deepen its relations with member states, famed for fast-growing markets over the last decades.

Bigombe said the high commission is busy creating diverse initiatives to implement government’s recent directive to promote economic and commercial diplomacy (ECD).

“Last year, I had the privilege of meeting with the various presidents of the chambers of commerce and industry in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. All of them expressed commitment to investing in oil and gas, renewable energy, infrastructure and tourism. Furthermore, I have had meetings with various investors, entrepreneurs and manufacturers in the four countries [of accreditation] we selected to host the business forums – Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam – all to promote economic and commercial gain for our trade,” she said.

Among prominent people that addressed the briefing was Habib Kagimu, Malaysia’s honorary consul in Uganda; Barbara Mulwana, honorary consul for Thailand; and Elly Kamahungye, director of International and Regional Economic Cooperation at the ministry.
