Supreme council sitting

The Tooro Kingdom supreme council, Orukurato rw’ensanju, has formally confirmed Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma as the successor to the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

The confirmation was made on Tuesday during a sitting of the supreme council at the Rukurato Chambers in Muchwa, chaired by speaker Julius Mwirumubi.

It followed a formal communication by Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, head of the Babiito royal clan, who introduced Kijanangoma to the council as the king-designate. Kamurasi told the council that Kijanangoma had been selected by a 21-member Babiito succession committee and would reign as Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.

He said the king-designate was being prepared for his new role and that the Babiito would announce the date for his coronation in due course.

Kamurasi said Oyo’s death required the kingdom to undertake a succession process to ensure continuity of the institution. He added that anyone dissatisfied with Kijanangoma’s selection was free to pursue legal avenues to challenge the decision.

Rukurato resumes

Kamurasi also criticised the earlier closure of the supreme council chambers at a time when the council was expected to convene following Oyo’s death.

He said Tooro customs require the supreme council to sit whenever a king dies to receive formal communication about the death and discuss preparations for the funeral.

According to Kamurasi, an earlier attempt to convene the council on September 1 failed after the chambers were locked and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel were deployed around the premises, preventing members from sitting.

Patrick Ganjangu Ateenyi, the representative of the Bagweri clan on the supreme council, seconded Kamurasi’s communication and called on members to confirm Kijanangoma as Oyo’s successor.

Another council member, Julius Byamukama, said the Rukurato had rallied behind the king-designate to ensure continuity of the Tooro throne.

The council subsequently confirmed Kijanangoma as king-designate and asked Kamurasi and the Babiito royal clan to proceed with preparations for his coronation.

Muhoozi rules out court challenge

The council’s decision came amid a continuing dispute within the Tooro royal family over Oyo’s succession.

Princess Ruth Komuntale and Princess Elizabeth Bagaya are among royal family members who have rejected Kijanangoma’s selection, arguing that Oyo left a will that should be respected in determining his successor.

The Babiito royal clan, however, has maintained that Kijanangoma was selected in accordance with Tooro customs and traditions.

Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday weighed into the dispute, saying he did not want court proceedings to delay Kijanangoma’s coronation.

“My fellow Ugandans, the new Omukama of Tooro is His Majesty Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I. Long may he reign. God bless him always. God bless Tooro,” Muhoozi posted on X.

“And I don’t want to hear of court cases. I want to hear of a Coronation date.”

  1. “Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba on Tuesday weighed into the dispute, saying he did not want court proceedings to delay Kijanangoma’s coronation”. If anyone has been doubtful of the invisible hand, here we are! Kijanangoma will not carry any spiritual power, it’s in Muhoozi and his 3 sons…This was done on August 22, before the ordination of Patience as a Bishop. Though for Muhoozi and his sons to get the spiritual power of Bachwezi, he will have to find away in the spirits to be in bed with Oyo’s children. When Oyo’s family, stands/kneel on the blood of Jesus; Stop, Block and Reverse it, then Muhoozi and Co. will find it hard to claim the spiritual powers they’re seeking. Ugandans please, let’s join in prayers and resist the spirits of Bachwezi as it derives it’s power from the spirit of the Dead/ Egyptian mummies. This is not health for any nations, it’s a curse that feeds on human blood sacrifice.

  2. I want to salute Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi. Though am not fan of kings an kingdoms but I have admired this old and brave babito clan leader for showing grit and announce to Uganda and powers that be that he is also powerful and can wield that power without intimidation or compromise.

  3. It appears the Queen-Mother, Best Kemigisa, relied on her relationship with Gen. Museveni, more than the Tooro Cultural institutions, which has turned out to be counterproductive at this point in time. It is clear that her many years of under-looking, neglecting, disregarding and condescending against the cultural institutions has finally come to bear heavily against her. This is instructive: Gen. Museveni may yield political, military and monetary power, but he cannot yield cultural power.

  4. Jamo, please forget about the Bachwezi BS myth!

The legend that there was once a powerful people (Kingdom) known as Bachwezi (Basiita Clan); blah, blah, black sheep. But who apparently and physically disappeared with their cattle without a traces, is BUT a BS nonsense!

A BS nonsense because, the scientific theory of what could have happened in the physical disappearance act of the Bachwezi; was a viral outbreak/epidemic/pandemic, like the current Ebola wrecking havoc in the DRC.

What about Covid-1 for that matter?

In other words, because of their unhygienic, cattle keeping, filthy, spitting, itinerary, gipsy nomadic, etc.; they could have contracted e.g. Anthrax, Ebola Marburg virus, etc. and got wiped out in a pile/cave!

Otherwise, like Jesus’ physical resurrection 3 days after the crucifixion, and thereafter 40 days-physically ascended to Heaven from Mount of Olives:

The Bachwezi disappearance myth, became a political ideological superiority complex (superiority complex is the superimposition of inferiority complex), which is still being peddled around by the MK of this country; is to spook gullible Ugandans into believing that: the diabolic Tibuhaburwa of this country are the chosen ones, to unquestionably lead this country until kingdom come.

    1. Lakwena, to uproot Museveni & co. and the curses on Uganda, you have to find out the origin of his/it’s spiritual strength. When a leader of anything nation or family or organization takes office, he/she dedicates the nation to his/her gods. So Bachwezi spiritual powers has been ongoing in Uganda. For example, Bagisu (Embalu) practices are in line with Bachwezi. In Busoga, Bunyoro, Tooro, Kasese, etc it’s a common practice. Before the development of Jinja, our ancestors moved from Islands of lake Victoria where they had settled from Congo, they were guided by the spirits(Bachwezi). In Jinja, they found a spiritual rock which is in a house of someone I know, where they did their spiritual rituals. Jinja(Rock) became the gateway to the Nile. Nalubaale(mother of rocks/mother of gods) was the original name of Lake Victoria. When the development of Jinja, railway line, bridges etc started taking place, it was our ancestors that graced most of the occasions together with Gabula Nadiope(RIP). So, when Indians on behalf of the British discovered the hidden secrets of Nalubaale through our ancestors, Jinja became a spiritual hub for Indians too. Sudhir Rupeirra went to schools in Jinja, Jinja S.S was for Indians students mostly etc. Later on, our ancestors discovered that they had been dished/conned, their land taken, no share of revenue or properties etc. Instead they had been relocated far from Jinja. When Obote(RIP) abolished Kingdoms, it was in line to stop the cult practices that had sprout in Uganda. After restoration of Kingdoms in Uganda, Sevo started the resurrection of the forbidden practices. He aggressively researched, promoted it openly…and up to date, it has taken many different modifications/shapes. If you have ever heard Sevos talks of lubaale(gods) is referring to connection to Nalubaale(mother of gods) or Bachwezi. When he talks of trees, is referring to manifestation of spirits on trees that is common in Bachwezi too. The Rocks/mountain both on land and in water carries spiritual powers. Manifestation of spirits in trees/water/rock are totally different from the one we know in the Bible. Here, it’s taking a form of masquerading to blind many people. I want people to know that my ancestors could have started, participated in it, though they don’t approve of it anymore, they don’t want to be used anymore! I got this message in 1996 while leaving in Jinja and had become a born-again christian.

  5. Let the Son of oyo rule coz kings are not elected but they are born.

If Oyo left the child behind that is fortunately impressive let him succeed his father as the customs align it otherwise no peace in tooro, Oyo is not just resting but spiritually active, now let there be the mistake in his will that will be taken the entire Tooro will testify

    1. So far the Queen Mother and the 2 Princesses have been talking about a will and a son since King Oyo died. They have had multiple opportunities to present both the will and the son, neither has been presented, which leads any intelligent person to assume that neither the will or the son exists. It sounds like a plan of the 3 ladies to remain in the palace and a position of power.

  6. One day you die and leave a will, your family won’t follow it. And you will cry out louder in your grave. Wills are last wishes. The toughness this guy uses when addressing scares me. Something definitely is wrong somewhere. Obiziga bwa bagezi! I saw him wipe tears but was the cry real? Wake up guys
