It was merry-making all over the place as Java House, a coffee-led restaurant chain in East Africa, reached a new milestone by opening its 100th store in Lubaga on August 18.
The new outlet is located at the large expanse of Shell Lubaga road, just a few metres away from the Nantawetwa junction. Since opening its first coffee shop in Nairobi in 1999, Java House has grown to become a well-known name in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.
According to Eusila Jepleting, Java House general manager, the opening of the Lubaga store is a celebration of customer loyalty, partnerships with the community and the brand’s commitment to quality that has helped it grow in the region.
The choice was made on purpose, taking into account the area’s lively energy, rich cultural history and busy community life. Schools, places of worship, and professionals are always on the move in Lubaga, making it the perfect place to introduce Java House’s growing “Express” concept.
This model, which can also be found in Najjeera and Muyenga, is for people who are busy and want a quick but satisfying coffee, lunch or pastry. The format is meant to be easy to use, but the brand’s promise of warm African hospitality is still at the heart of the experience. Jepleting says the Express format has proven to be a game changer for our urban customers.
“It gives us the flexibility to meet people where they are—in their commute, in their errands, or in their quick breaks—without losing the warmth that defines Java House.”
Java House’s move into Lubaga is part of its larger five-year plan to make things easier and more accessible for its growing customer base.
The company’s regional strategy focusses on hiring local talent, getting ingredients from local sources and tailoring experiences to fit the culture and habits of each area. Jepleting adds that the Lubaga branch is expected to help the local economy by creating jobs and buying from Ugandan suppliers.
“Java House wants this store to be more than just a place to get coffee; it wants it to be a place where people can meet, share ideas, make friends, and feel at home—a true home away from home,” she notes.
