Whether you are flying into or out of Uganda, Faze 3 could easily become your welcome or farewell go-to eatery.
Located near Entebbe airport, it offers a captivating panoramic view and you are treated to a breezing vintage sweep of Lake Victoria, while the west gives a glimpse of the old Entebbe airport. The space is a symphony of organized chaos.
Waiters and waitresses, armed with excellent product knowledge, are constantly striving to impress, translating into exceptional service. Interestingly, the one who welcomes you in isn’t the one who brings the menu, and the person who brings the menu won’t be the one to serve your food.
It’s a smooth relay, and somehow, it works perfectly. The menu is a global culinary tour featuring Ugandan tilapia and chips prepared in English style, American burgers and wraps, Mexican quesadillas, French banquettes, Indian tandoori dishes and Moroccan chicken mezze, not forgetting Italian-style steaks.
Still, about 90 percent of diners opt for the deep-fried or grilled tilapia. I almost regretted ordering the grilled tilapia fillet (Shs 38,000), having been told it was quicker to prepare than the grilled whole tilapia (Shs 42,000).
At first bite, the fillet felt blunt and under- seasoned. But then came the mushroom sauce, an unconventional fish. I tried it, and it turned out to be the magic wand. The golden- brown crust of the fillet transformed into something meltingly flavourful and deeply satisfying.
Even the mashed potatoes and the side vegetables carrots, French beans, and zucchini began to shine in this unexpected harmony. It is almost impossible to finish your meal, especially if you throw in a starter or a drink.
And despite being just a stone’s throw away from the lake, there are no lake flies to ruin your appetite. All this unfolds to the sound of live music from a resident soloist, setting a mood of calm elegance. This is fine dining at its finest. Worth every penny.
