Five people have been confirmed dead and 21 others injured in a devastating road crash involving nine vehicles along the Kampala-Bombo road.

The accident occurred on Wednesday at around 9 PM in Mayanja valley, Kagoma. Traffic police spokesperson Michael Kananura said preliminary investigations indicate that the driver of a Fuso Super Grande truck (registration, UBK 769A), travelling from Kampala to Bombo, lost control while descending Mayanja valley and crashed into several other vehicles and a motorcycle.

“Four occupants of different vehicles and a motorcycle rider died on the spot, while 21 passengers in taxis sustained injuries,” Kananura said.

The crash involved nine motor vehicles and one motorcycle:

  4. UBK 769A – Fuso Super Grande (truck)

  6. UAL 333C – Toyota Corolla
  7. UAV 026F – Toyota Hiace (taxi)
  8. UBQ 062B – Toyota Sienta
  9. UBD 483N – Toyota Hiace (taxi)
  10. UES 773K – Yamaha motorcycle

The injured victims were rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the wreckages from the crash have been towed to Kawempe Police Station for inspection as investigations into the cause of the accident continue.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially when navigating slopes and valleys, to prevent similar tragedies.
