Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine
NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi

When the opposition party, National Unity Platform (NUP) led by musician Bobi Wine/Robert Kyagulanyi invited itself to the village brawl that is Uganda’s governance, the ruling regime received NUP with wide-open jaws — chomping on NUP supporters for the rather grave crime of daring to support the upstart ghetto president, Bobi Wine.

The message was clear – steer clear of Bobi Wine and you will live unhindered by long prison stays sprinkled with torture and abductions, or a brutal death, if that’s your preference. The drone phenomenon (of state security operatives using vans to harass and abduct opposition supporters) as we now know it has become synonymous with the political persecution of NUP.

Yet, NUP is still standing, continually advocating for its battered, bruised, and dead supporters and their families. Like nimble prey staying ahead of an apex predator, NUP also works quietly on other fronts – from unveiling a respectable headquarters, launching an online membership drive to instituting a leadership school, among others.

The 39-year-old ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) with President Yoweri Museveni at the helm since the sun- kissed year of 1986, chugs on like a hulking yellow bus outfitted with brute force and sheer impunity. Determined to continue its stranglehold of the presidency, the NRM has used its incumbency to blur the lines between the party and the state.

The regime does not take too kindly to dissent and civil activism, and is increasingly belligerent in its suppression of dissent. Our elections have fallen into a predictable pattern of disquiet: the sole winner backed by state-sponsored intimidation and violence, stray bullets finding luckless citizens and leaving them quite dead, NRM functionaries warning the public against protests ‘the government will kill your children’, and, of course, the smarmy sacks and envelopes of money oiling the wheels of the hubristic yellow bus.

Furthermore, events of recent weeks have the presidency and the army flexing that constitutionalism is ‘unacceptable.’ The lords of the gun don’t like the letters of the constitution.

Still, NUP, whose base is disenfranchised young people, aka ‘foot soldiers’, is unflinching in its tone and branding. Recently at the party celebration of Bobi Wine’s birthday, the foot soldiers in crisp red party uniforms staged a parade. NRM flunkies gleefully latched onto this display, urging the police and army to clamp down on NUP’s ‘hooligans’ (Oh yes, another thing the regime does well is the constant demonization of the opposition – archetypal victim blaming).

The parade was similar to NRM gatherings at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi where regime supporters cosplay as gallant UPDF warriors because who does not want to be a beefy- moustached soldier? In oversized army uniforms, the NRM members even practice firing guns, much to the delight of the NRM Chairman/President Museveni who looks on like a proud grandfather.

Dear reader, when the NRM does it, it is patriotism in action. When unarmed NUP does it, state security wearing cadaverous masks (no different from thugs), besieges their offices, raiding and trashing them.

NUP’s red parade is also that hot itch in a sensitive spot – playing into the gleeful violence of the regime while furthering the narrative that only those with an army can ‘manage’ Uganda. The words of the former Democratic Party president and two-time presidential candidate Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere are a cautionary tale for our day.

Ssemogerere, in a 2014 Daily Monitor interview, observed: “The danger we face even now is that it is being taken for granted that one needs an army on their side to win an election and maintain a government. Obote did it, Museveni is doing it now. It is a tragedy that Ugandans must fight to get out of.”

Therafa, NUP is a juicy fruit of NRM’s coercive oppression. By deliberately clamping down on the opposition’s ability to organise, the regime nurtures fanatical resistance. These fanatics are not a preserve of NUP – the original fanatics are from the revolutionary loins of the Luweero Bush war.

When the First Son of Impunity, army chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba (MK) tweets about beheading Bobi Wine, his rabid army of supporters bare their teeth, salivating at the prospect of hanging ‘Kabobi.’ Following the latest episode in outrageous and violent tweets by the First Son of Impunity, Kenyans have latched onto MK’s tweets, haughtily wondering why Ugandans do not pour out onto the streets in protest – such is their privilege.

Dear reader, it is quite simple. Dead simple. Stray bullets in the hands of the NRM state are consistently effective at unaliving unarmed Ugandans. In December 2024, Daily Monitor chronicled the harrowing experiences of jailed NUP members such as Abdul Matovu.

Matovu alleged that his torturer asked, “In case we give you power, do you think you will manage us with our guns? Do you think your ideologies of telling people to demonstrate will work? This government fought for you, we slept in the wild with animals, you even have wives, but we used goats and would kill the same goat for our meat; do you think you will manage?”

But amidst this chaos and violence, behind every act of defiance is a community of people united in their struggle for justice and freedom. The resilience of these individuals, those who risk their lives advocating for a Uganda where we can all thrive — reminds us that true power resides not in the gun but in people – their solidarity and courage.

The narrative must shift; it is time we amplify the voices of those who dare to stand against tyranny, for they embody hope and change in a world overshadowed by fear and oppression.

What about the NRM state? The state has the responsibility to be the adult in this room called Uganda – because the state is armed and dangerous.

  1. Say no more ! When some men fail to provide for their family, they feel defeated and develop a deep sense of inadequacy which in many men can lead to serious domestic violence.

There is no other way to explain what is going on in Uganda today. The total disappearance of the trust of years past and the regime’s failure to deliver on promises made to citizens has made the regime resort to serial domestic abuse of its citizens. Say no more!

  2. Tayaad, “The 39-year-old ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) with President Yoweri Museveni at the helm since the sun- kissed year of 1986, chugs on like a hulking yellow bus outfitted with brute force and sheer impunity. Determined to continue its stranglehold of the presidency, the NRM has used its incumbency to blur the lines between the party and the state.”
The caption reads, “In defence of NUP.” What is there to defend? It’s clear like day and night that not only M7 is determined to continue his stranglehold of presidency with brute force and sheer impunity but also indomitable to continue his stranglehold of parliament and judiciary with brute force and sheer impunity.
Take for example the violence and brutality M7 has unleashed on the NUP candidate, Nalukoola, and his supporters in the Kawempe byelections, what is in it for NUP to keep absorbing such endless brutality in each and every bogus election?
Kyagulanyi and NUP clearly know that bogus elections wont [and never will] bring change to Uganda but they are in for it for individual financial benefit! Pure and simple!
Kyagulanyi and NUP are motivated and driven by greed and unable to abandon bogus elections in order to “advocate for a Uganda where we can all thrive — reminds us that true power resides not in the gun [and bogus elections] but in people – their solidarity and courage.”
We must abandon the bogus elections. In other words, “The narrative must shift; it is time we amplify the voices of those who dare to stand against tyranny, for they embody hope and change in a world overshadowed by fear and oppression.”
We must end the vicious cycle of brutality and/or violence in each and every bogus election which only M7, Kyagulanyi and those in power are the beneficiaries.
Therefore, what is there to defend?

  3. Remase, may your disagreement With NUP allow you to defend them when the state unleashes its brutality as is currently happening.

May you look past your quarrel with NUP and defend their rights, rights equal to all Ugandans regardless of political creed. Call out the aggressor boldly not the subject of their oppression. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    1. Mukyala Nalubwama , you wish !!!
This is a special case. Its like telling Muhoozi to stop tweeting ( joking)

Laba yo : we still don`t know why Katumba Wamala is the only General that was targeted in an assassination attempt in which his beloved Brenda was shot dead. We still don`t know who shot Maj. Kiggundu , Kaweesi , Kirumira , Ichuli Isma , Joan Kagezi , Abiriga , 5 Shiekhs and others . ..
We still don´t know why Shiekh Kirevu was shot while handkapped . We still don`t know why boxer Ssenyange was shot point- blank. We still don`t know who shot Yasin Kawuma and who the intended target was.
Yet , the head of Uganda`s armed forces continues to “joke” about putting bullets in heads. We laugh !
So this is Uganda -the place where its is okay to endlessly ” querral” with selected targets for a living . It matters less how often you do ; you just count on it that not many will question your sobriety.
Madam Tayaad , please take time and count how many times one particular name is mentioned in only two single comments. Only then will you know what you are dealing with.
      Good luck !

  4. Nalubwama, what is new here? Who doesn’t know that M7 is bruttle? You are talking about “when the state unleashes its brutality as is currently happening” as if it has never happened before and it’s new to you, right?
Call it what you will. You’re at liberty and entitled to your view. However, we, as a country, are in a vicious cycle of violence since the beginning of time or since the sun- kissed year of 1980 when M7 took us to the bush war which started in Luwero triangle to bring peace, fundamental change and rule of law. 45 years later, we’re in the worst position than we were in 1980 or before, with no end in sight, and all hope for change has despaired due to the fact that Kyagulanyi and NUP [the leading opposition figure and party respectively] are indomitable to keep us locked up in bogus elections in which Kyagulanyi, M7 and those in power are the only beneficiaries.
You, Kyagulanyi and NUP supporters wants us to believe that the brutality started when Kyagulanyi stood against M7 in the 2021 elections, right?. In other words, before that, every thing was lovey-dovey. Kyagulanyi blamed it on Besigye and said that, “Besigye stood against M7 4 times and lost, then said that there’s no democracy.” Kyagulanyi [emphatically] told us that there’s democracy in Uganda and he would show us that it works. So, through bogus elections, Kyagulanyi is demonstrating to us that democracy is at work, right?
Nalubwama, is there democracy in Uganda?
While you’re still at it, let me remind you about [just a few]”when the state unleashes its brutality as is currently happening: 1. Just like now, on August 13, 20218, during the byelections in Arua, Yasin Kawuma, Kyagulanyi’s driver, was brutally murdered in cold blood by M7’s militants and Kyagulanyi and Zaake were brutalized badly and almost lost their lives. Despite the fact that those who murdered Yasin and brutalized Kyagulanyi, Zaake and others are known to M7, there has never been any accountability at all! 2. In November 2020 M7 killed over 150 innocent people due to the fact that M7 had detained Kyagulanyi [who was innocent] in Jinja, simply because Kyagulanyi stood against him,!
    3. “When the state unleashes its brutality as is currently happening” in the Kawempe byelections in which the NUP candidate, Nalukoola, was brutalised and a journalist has lost his eye after he was ruthlessly beaten by know militants to M7 and his son, Muhoozi M7, 4. Not to mention the police raid of the NUP office!
The point is, elections in Uganda are synonymous with the state unleashing its brutality as is currently happening. That is a give.
So, what is there to defend? Nalubwama, even if I were to defend, what difference would it make?
Over 10 candidates are standing in the Kawempe bogus byelections in order to make money, and nothing else. It’s all about making money and greed.
Nalubwama, is that what you want me to defend?
You, Kyagulanyi/NUP and all those who are supporting bogus elections are looking for your own interests but not to bring change to Uganda.

  5. Of late , screens have been awash with images of Nalukoola being beated up savagely by masked thugs in black , using black solido whips. It does not matter that a small Nalukoola is totally harmless both in speach and in stature.
Too these goons , Nalukoola must be flogged and beaten up because he wears colours that represent bogusness and an unacceptable love of tax money. In their heads , what is there about Nalukoola to defend anyway !
Right here , we have Remase , properly masked by a bombastic name , and fully equipped with a very quick PC.
Remase does not even have to stay awake if he feels its time to flog Kyagulanyi and anybody who dares to associate themselves with NUP.
To him , it does not matter if they have rights or not . Their crime has already been defined : a capital offence that must be read repeatedly lest we forget.
As the goons beat up Nalukoola , our Tayaad masses just stand aside and watch or get busy filming the incident for Tik Tok pleasure later. What is there to defend ?
Over here , only ME dare wonder what would happen to the Nalukoolas of NUP if Remase was solidolized , deployed given orders to enter Kavule Bogus Headquaters ?

  6. With no disrespect to both NUP and and Wine, the organization looks more like a tribal militant group than a national political party.

Not to mention that all their videos which are pasted on the social media are always in Luganda.
No need to get into the word salad innuendoes to prove my point.

  7. Once again, what is new? Is Nalukoola the first victim of M7’s brutality? I mean, are NUP or Kyagulanyi the first victims of violence which is synonymous with bogus elections? Bogus elections are completely useless and meaningless. NUP and Kyagulanyi are simply motivated by greed or making money?
The militants who brutalized Nalukoola and others are from a terrorist unit. Is Nalukoola a terrorist? Or better still, are elections terrorism? Indeed elections are terrorism because M7 always terrorize the opposition.
Fellow Ugandans, what do we benefit from bogus elections?
One can defend NUP all he/she wants, however, they’re in it for individual benefits because, they’re aware of the risks involved but due to their greed, Kyagulanyi/NUP Don’t care!
Imagin the violence and/or brutality of 2020 bogus elections in which innocent people who were kidnapped are still missing! Olivia Lutaya and 21 others were detained for 4 years until they pleased guilty to crimes they never consented! Others are still detented despite the supreme court ruling!
Again, is the Kawempe bogus byelection going to bring change?
If Kyagulanyi doesn’t care about Olivia Lutaya and others who are still detained, but all he cares about are meaningless bogus elections in order to make money, what makes you think that he cares about bringing a fundamental change in which everyone is a beneficiary?

  8. Meant to say that others are still detained despite the supreme court ruling which declared the militant court unconstitutional.
Guess what, M7 [as always] is going to change the constitution in order to continue trying innocent civilians in militant court?
Now, if for 4 years Senyonyi and or NUP in parliament have done nothing to stop M7’s brutality in which many innocent people have lost their lives, including but not limited to Sejirinya, what is Nalukoola going to change if at all he is elected?
The other day Nabanja challenged LoP, Senyonyi, in parliament to present evidence of the [govt] militants who brutalized Nalukoola and other!
Nabanja clearly said that Senyonyi is completely bogus and only interested in “making the govt look bad,” which Nabanja represent!
Those were Nabanja’s words not mine, that Senyonyi is bogus! So, what will Nalukoola do differently from Senyonyi, which NUP has not done in 4 years as the leading opposition party in parliament?

  9. Nalubwama, unlike others, I know where your heart is. I’m certain that you have heard about Kyagulanyi’s song, “Buli omu asibba kiwanyi.” Kyagulanyi/NUP are in the business of making money trough politics! Tell any business in which one makes [lots of] money without doing anything. Name only one business in which you’re given about Sh. 500m to buy a car on the first day of entering parliament. Then you start earning a minimum of Sh. 50m every month for doing absolutely nothing but to legitimize M7’s brutality!
Nalubwama, is that what you want me to defend?
Nalubwama, this is the perfect message for you, “But amidst this chaos and violence, behind every act of defiance is a community of people united in their struggle for justice and freedom. The resilience of these individuals, those who risk their lives advocating for a Uganda where we can all thrive — reminds us that true power resides not in the gun but in people – their solidarity and courage.”
In other words, we must unite together in order to defend Uganda against M7’s chaos and violence. We’re currently divided “when the state unleashes its brutality as is currently happening.” Kyagulanyi and NUP are continuing to keep us divided as long as they individually make money! They clearly know that change will never come through bogus elections. So, who is fooling who? “Kiwaaanyi, Kiwaanyi, buli omu asibba kiwanyi!” M7 is fooling us into bogus violent elections. Kyagulanyi is also fooling us into the same violent bogus elections, with clear knowledge that nothing is going to change!
So, how do you defend that?

  10. Nalubwama, talking about “defend their rights, rights equal to all Ugandans regardless of political creed.” Which equal rights are you talking about? Because, Kyagulanyi, Eddy Mutwe and Nubian Lee are enjoying their rights of freedom of engaging in the bogus elections, when other innocent people are still rotting in detention, while others are missing! Are Kyagulanyi, Nalukoola, Eddy Mutwe and Nubian Lee’s rights more equal than Olivia Lutaya and 21 others who had to plead guilty to crimes never committed?
Why is Kyagulanyi selective in whose rights he fights for? Kyagulanyi, Senyonyi, Lubongoya and others are putting on the red berets everyday and they’re freely enjoying their rights to make money in bogus elections! However, so many innocent people have lost their lives, and others who are believed to be over 3,000 are rotting in detention because of putting on red clothes or berets!
Nalubega, why should I be selective like Kyagulanyi in defending “their rights” but not those who are rotting in detention while Kyagulanyi and others are continuing to enjoy their rights of enjoying money made from bogus elections, which is the cause of brutality of those who are detained and others who are missing?

  11. Munaffe Olivia , nakulabula . Kati ndowooza okirabye nti kuba kumala budde okwenyigira mu mboozi ey`amagezi n`omulalu akasuka amayinja .
I warned you . Remase is a special case. Please do not bother reasoning with this masked chap . He is a state confusing agent.

Nkimanyi nti you are smart and are capable of drawing a synopic conclusions, even from long winding and repetative heaps pollutive crap. Sometimes , all it takes is one line to spot the aims and intentions of the owner of such crap.
Take this one as an example ; and I quote :
” Nabanja clearly said that Senyonyi is completely bogus and only interested in “making the gov look bad”
According to Remase , what Nabbanja says in final . Nabbanja represents the government , therefore , she is not on the hit list of those who are guilty of being “motivated by greed and love of money”
It gets even worse : This is the Nabbanja who faced the cameras and told the nation that ” we have Kibalama ; he committed crimes and will be prosecuted for those crimes”
Its two years since Nabbanja made that declaration ; Kibalama and others are no where to be seen.
Guno omuyaayu gwa wano gwo kugamba ki ?
Kamunye bw`agwa mu nkoko , tunenye oyo azirunda .
Ggwe wamma wandiika bibyo , Abagezi bakutegeera.
    Akuume !

    1. Mawa, I suppose since in his X-tweet Gen MK has sworn to “personally kill” Hon Kyagulanyi; he and Balaam of this country must be the ones who knows the whereabouts of the missing Kibalama and others of this country.

Remember, it was Dumbass Balaam, who manipulated and sweet-talked some of the GCM indefinitely detained NUP supporters; into false plea of guilt.

And now that the GCM has been damned by the Supreme Court as the agent of wrongdoing, on innocent Ugandans like the NUP supporter and/or Dr. Besigye and Haj kamulegeya of this country; Dumbass Balaam must be feeling a real dumbass that carries whatever is loaded on its back and sides, and until it start farting loudly.

In other words, how idiotic must some people become before realizing that they are actually useful idiots.

      1. Lakwena, thank you for your accurate observation. In other words, Muhoozi M7 has clearly come out and made violent statements which can’t be reciprocated by anyone but only his father, M7.
That he, Muhoozi, wants to behead Kyagulanyi.
Wearing red clothes is a treasonable offence, punishable by being court marshalled in a militant court, with a death penalty. What would be the case if one said that he/she wants to behead Muhoozi?
I was going to stay in a NUP conversation as the article above did, however, let me through in a freebie here, Muhoozi also said that Besigye will only leave prison in a coffin or else he must apologize to his father. Could anyone dare say that, as a co-owner of Uganda, Muhoozi would only leave state house in a coffin or he should apologize to Ugandans for using such unprovoked violent language?
However, in Uganda it’s the norm and Muhoozi and his father, M7, are entitled to unleash unprovoked brutal violence against innocent Ugandans, but it’s business as usual! And “when the state unleashes its brutality as is currently happening,” which is the norm in our elections cycle, Nalubwama wants us to believe that it’s new and has only happened to NUP!
When I challenged her and asked that, is this new? Nalubwama unleashed her brutal word against me.
Well, I’m waiting for her response. Otherwise, te watabba mu mazina ga nkima bwoba tayagala mikira gya nkima ku koona ko. I certainly have some good names for her too, because she had no cause and/or basis to call me prejudice and malicious without giving evidence of untruthful statements that I made.

  12. Kent Mawa, while I wholeheartedly disagree with Remase’s tunnel-vision stance, I do not hold it against him for expressing his opinion even with his mud-slinging, for I abhor oppression and strive not to emulate it even on an individual basis.

Thus, my stand against impunity remains unshaken regardless of political creed. Mine is to raise my God-given voice in defense of the rights of citizens, to call out injustice on behalf of victims – and I will continue to do so help me Lord. Bad governance is bad for all of us, eventually.

    1. Nalulwama, with all due respect, you’re the last person I expected to use such language which is unbecoming of you! Before I respond to your comment in details, please explain to me how my comments could be construed as “mudslinging?”
As a journalist, you may disagree with me, and that is okay, however, what is it that I have stated, which isn’t true and malicious? Malicious to who?
What isn’t true in order for you to say that I’m malicious?
Let me give you an opportunity to explain how you came up with your comment, otherwise I’ll definitely respond thereto because, you can’t have it both ways. On one hand you say that, “I do not hold it against him for expressing his opinion,” and on the other you say that I’m prejudice and malicious. All because you disagree with me, isn’t it?

  13. Bogus means fake or fugazi. I have said it consistently that Kyagulanyi is a fugazi and this is why: l. M7 has not changed his ways. In any case, M7 is worsening each and everyday ever since Kyagulanyi stood against him in order to become the leading opposition figure and NUP became the leading opposition party in parliament, which was Kyagulanyi objective. 2. Beside other opposition figures who’re being persecuted, in 4 years of Kyagulanyi/NUP leadership M7 has killed more people than Amin killed in 9 years! In 2 days only M7 killed over 150 innocent people in November 2020! 2. In 4 years M7 has kidnapped, detained and further tried more innocent people in militant courts than Amin did in 9 years. In 4 years M7 and the entire govt [executive, parliament and judiciary] are looting taxpayers money than all previous govts before M7 put together. I could go on and on.
The point is, in 4 years of Kyagulanyi’s leadership of the opposition , everything has gotten worse than ever before with no end in sight.
In 4 years Ugandans have fled their country for greener pasture overseas than ever before.
In 4 years Kyagulanyi has made the opposition completely useless and meaningless to the extent that we’re reminded that Nabanja acknowledged that, “we have Kibalama,” however, 2 years later, Kibalama and other are still missing.
Fellow Ugandans, if that isn’t fake, what is?

  14. Hello Olivia Nalubwama , I have followed your writings for a long time. If I am not mistaken , this was the first time you responded to a comment. I am guessing that something must have triggered your concern.
Personally , I strongly believe in the power of reason. THEREFO , I have no problems with anybody`s right to have and express an opinion.
That being said , I notice it when an opinion degenerates into mud-slinging ( your word) . I do not believe that being spiteful is an acceptable opinion.
You, Olivia risks being thrown in one of those horrible jails if some idiot made constant allegations that you are paid by homesexuals to write unpatriotic articles.; that your critical articles are only about putting your hands on gay money. Remase is here doing the same against selected targets . He spent years making allegations against Katikkiro Mayiga and the Nabagereka , Why ? I see a nasty pattern ; I have taken it upon me to point it out.

My late Mum was a medical officer in Mulago- Masaka . She used to tell us over and over again that a headache ( itself) is not a disease , but a symptom of something else that has gone wrong in the body system. I think she was meaning that there might be a hidden reason behind every strange behavior.
Nalukooka gets badly beaten up for walking on the road ; Olivia , who abhors oppression writes something against such a behavior …. then someone responds ” what is there to defend– what is Nalukoola going to change ..”
That is when my Mum`s voice rings in my head , and I wonder thus : WHY is this person doing this over and over again ? What is his motivation ? what is his intention ?
I have already offered my opinion over that one : propaganda !

  15. Take short time only read the last pharagraph of yet another piece of crap from Remase.
This thinly masked chap implies that if many Ugandans have been forced to leave Uganda for greener pastures elsewhere, Kyagulanyi must be blamed for that .
So you know , this is a person who left Uganda long before Kyagulanyi joined politics .

  16. Olivia Nalubwama,

Time you help Ugandans by calling for an end to the tribalistic system that Rwandese Museveni so so cleaverly put in place, knowing it’s the only POWER he has, needs to own Uganda!

Once Ugandans UNITE with just ONE National Leadear, how will Museveni hold on?

How long did Tito Okello held on when all the other tribas UNITED against him?

    1. Akot, “Time to help Ugandans by calling for an end to the tribalistic system that Rwandese Museveni so cleverly put in place.” My dearest, you’re right on the money. Indeed, M7 has cleverly put a system in place in which people are only interested to join politics in order to make money but not to serve or save the nation!
I have asked over and over again, what do we, Ugandans, benefit from the bogus elections? Violence and chaos! Killing innocent people and a complete waste time of taxpayers money, only to benefit M7, Kyagulanyi and those in power!
Akot, instead of giving me an answer, Nalubwama has called me names that I’m prejudice and malicious, without giving any evidence thereof!
We, as a nation, are so divided to the extent that, the opposition is joining M7 in his hardcore organised [crime] govt, in what is called, “if you can’t beat them, join them!” B. Kamya, Fool Figure, N. Mao, A. Among, B. Anywa, Tayebwa, Katuntu, you name it. Why? Because M7 has so cleverly put in place a system in which people are motivated by greed and/or making money.
So, people are joining politics to make money. The late Kato Lubwama was honest enough to ask his people that, “Nange munonde ngende ndye ku bintu.” That, also elect me [Kato] so that I also fall into things.
However, others like Kyagulanyi come in a form of deceit that, they want to be elected because there’s democracy in Uganda and it’s those who lose elections who claim that there’s no democracy!
If there’s democracy, then why is it that each and every election is violent and chaotic?
Of course a system that M7 has built based on corruption, impunity, tribalism, nepotism, militant[ism] and lawlessness can only produce violence and chaos.
When I point out that our politician don’t care about bring change but “buli omu asibba kiwanyi, in order to make money, including but not limited to, Kyagulanyi. Nalubwama says that it’s because I’m prejudice and malicious!
      well, let’s wait and see.

  17. Kent Mawa, I am only responsible for what I put out and stand by my work; I can’t be held responsible for how others react to it.

Neither can I be responsible for how others interpret oppression through the lens of their experience. As a journalist, my job is to present several sides of a story instead of staying in my echo chamber. So learning/unlearning/relearning is important to me.

They say abusers come out of abuse yet not all victims of abuse become abusers- some successfully break that cycle.
For the record, this is the 3rd time I have engaged the wonderful world of the comments’ section. As always, it does not disappoint. Until next time.

  18. I have had too many reactions from some people who have read the last two comments that I directed at Olivia.
One lady asked me to pass this message to Olivia , something I reluctantlly agreed to do.
She said this : Olivia is a fine brain and witty person who means well when she writes that she does not hold anything against anyone for expressing their opinions. But Olivia must be aware that even today`s garbage was part yesterday`s delicious meal.
What may start as an expession of an opinion can end up becoming something un acceptable. Give a dog a bad name and you hang him is wise saying that relates to what this person is doing to some individuals.
Today , we are faced with a problem of a son who feels he has the right to tweet his opinions . You commit an offence if you dare suggest that what he tweets are offensive and should be held against him.
The lady ( who claim to be Olivia`s OG ) continued to say that , of all people , Olivia knows how dictatorships apply multiple survival strategies . They bribe , humiliate intimidate ; they unleash armed thugs on the streets , and character assassins on cyberspace.
Cyberspace assassins are trained to play deceptive psychology – like the one we see from Remase .
Then , there is another type of operators, like Mao , Andrew Mwenda , Gashumba , Balaam , Rwomushana and others . Those ones are always on talk shows or even in parliament. Their modus operandi is the same :begin by sounding like you are criticing the government or even President Museveni , then end by heaping all the blame on the “opposition” . For dramatic effect , pick out particular individual names and accuse them of “working with Museveni at night”; insist that you have evidence . Let the State take hostages, and leave the rest to propandists to ask over and over again why the opposition is not doing enough to free these those people. Make sure you know the names of the people that the regime has in its illegal custody – the ones the opposition has failed set free.

    1. But Mawanda, does everybody see what I see?

In other words, don’t you think “physiologically” Charles Rwomushana has began, not only to sound deceptive , but also look like our 84-year-old (courtesy of Winnie Byanyima)”Problem of Africa”, Gen Tibuhaburwa.

E.g. the bold, Classic Triangular head, fuzzy moustache and the He-goat stutter sic stammer, which is a mental disorder triggered by dishonesty!

      Eish!

  19. Point noted.
For the record , I did not and will never say that the owner of an article should be responsible for how others react to it. (I am conversant with the disclaimer concept that is attached to this kind of profession)
All I can say is that some acts may generate a reaction. I suppose that is why Olivia felt she had to indulge herself into the wonderful world of commentary- a reaction born out of an action
And so… when journalist Olivia politely asks ( or advises) one of her readers to suspend his querrels for just one day and join those who are against state brutality , is she doing so with the aim of taking away that readers right to interpret oppression/ brutality through lens of that reader`s experience ?
Is Olivia responsible for more and even more uncouth mud -slinging as a response from her reader.
Absolutely not ; Not today , not tomorrow , not never !
    Ebyo bye byange .

  20. Indeed all the comments above are good for the debate about the misery that abound in present day Uganda. Uganda citizens are all entitled to participate in political debates as a right. That is why when the former Secretary General of the Democratic Party, deceased Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemwogere joined the NRM 1986/1995, he had high hopes for President Museveni’s Movement system of governance. The rest is indeed history. NUP right now is building up its history as a new young political party since 14 July, 2020 from much of the Uganda’s violent tumult history since 1966 after the independence of 1962. NUP’s ambition as a political party is more like the DP political party of deceased Ben Kiwanuka(1954/2025 that is constantly bent on convicing all Ugandan citizens to participate in national democratic governance under a constitutional government that continues to rig national democratic elections left, right and centre. Certainly Buganda has had enough of such undemocratic political adventures and needs to stop participating again in such elections that are not free and fair! The Ganda tribespeople should stay at home when such national elections arrive. They should cook their food, eat and go to sleep. The next day they should wake up and resume their day to day activities to make their living. Ssabasajja Kabaka of Buganda with His government has already elected all the leadership in the territory of Buganda to continue to administer the Kingdom state of Buganda proper.

    1. Kabayeka, thank you. The issue is about bogus elections which is the cause of M7”s brutality or violence and chaos. The answer to that is abandoning bogus and unit as one to bring change.
However, Nalubwama is leading us to believe to believe that it’s only NUP which is facing M7’s brutality and it’s new in our political cycle. So, I offended her when I questioned, what is there to defend.
Instead of explaining to me what was untruthful of what I stated, she came out swinging at me and exposed her thin-skined attitude!
I have responded to her yet, but certainly will at the appropriate time.
Good enough, she joined “mazina ge nkima,” so, if emikira gye nkima touches her, she’ll know nti okufumba si kwota. That much I can promise.

      1. Meant to say that I have not responded to Nalubwama yet but took notice of it.
As a journalist, she ought to have explained how she arrived at her comment and further point out what is untrue about my comments. Otherwise, what stops me from reversing the charge? Should I also conclude that Nalubwama is motivated by “mudslinging” and she is narrow minded when she writes her article and comments? Because, she narrowed M7’s brutality on NUP only as if he is not brutal to others! So, she wants us to defend NUP.
Kyagulanyi/NUP are entrepreneurs and clearly know M7’s brutality, and are taking the risk to make money.
Nalubwama, could you tell me what we benefit from the bogus elections?

  21. Very true , indeed good debate or talking is one of the heathiest ways to cope with unbearable circumstancies . That is what brings some of us here. We shall never be silenced .
I concur with the observation that Nup is now building up its history as a new young political party. Is is notable that this has displeased , annoyed and forced the regime into resorting to uncalled for violance.

Way back in the 60 and the 70s , you could detain or murder your political rivals for as long as you wanted and nobody could say anything. Today , you may detain Dr. Besigye alright , but you must count on the likelyhood that there will be a lot of protesting action .
Back in the day , you could kidnap the Chief Justice , or assassinate Brig.Okoya and there would be zero recorded evidence to prove it. Today , you beat up Nalukoola and the whole incident will be on screens within minutes.

  22. Oh yes , NUP is composed of and ambitious young Ugandans that trying to day or do the things that DP of the 50s , 60s and 70s used to do and say. The only difference is that DP relied upon ready-made elites to deliver its message , while NUP has gone down the gheto , inspired and motivated the “unqualified” to join and to aspire to leadership heights.
It must be said that as it builds up , NUP is going to make many mistakes, and it has. I personally thought that Mr. Kyagulanyi has still a lot to learn when it comes to internal conflicts management. ( that thing with ego centric Mpuuga should have been handled differently)
But , it is one thing to disagree with NUP , Kyagulanyi , FDC , Dr .Besigye and others , and another thing to maliciously assassinate their personal characters. People should be blamed for the mistakes they have comitted , not on errors that we may think they might make.
Intelligent people can always disagree without being disagreeable.
On the question of elections that no one can win but the dictator , that issue has been well covered , many times by Dr.Besigye ; even more times by Mr. Kyagulanyi. I have heard them saying over and over again that the ballot alone cannot remove Museveni from power; that as long as he appoints his own referee and the VAR controllers , there is zero chance that elections will be free and fair.
Besigye and Kyagulanyi camps then go ahead to explain why they still participate on those elections: use the process as a platform to reach the people and deliver the message of change.
It is debatable whether or not this is the right strategy. Personally , I consider the circustances and agree, with Yusuf Sserunkuma`s sentiment: even if the opposition boycott the elections , Museveni will find a way to create his own opposition.
    Finally , the Ganda question:
I am not sure that everyone has noticed that Buganda does no longer complain about the lack of Baganda among the top positions in this “government” It is so clear that there is an open discrimination against the Baganda during the last 3 years . For 4 years , Museveni has not appointed any single Muganda for any important position anywhere. This has never happened since Uganda become a nation.
My view is that Kabayekka may have the answer to that one . It seems like Buganda has noticed this and quietly decided to generally disassociate itself from central politics and focus more on running its own programmes under its own terms , regardless of the obstacles .
