The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has rejected the results of the Kawempe North by-election, alleging that the process was neither free nor fair.
The election, held last Thursday, was won by the National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate, Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, who secured 17,764 votes, defeating NRM’s Faridah Nambi, who garnered 8,593 votes.
Speaking to journalists at the NRM headquarters on Saturday, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong announced that the party intends to petition the court soon to challenge the election results.
Todwong cited incidents of violence, cheating, and ballot stuffing as reasons for the rejection, arguing that the exercise was riddled with irregularities. The election process was marred by violence, with multiple arrests and reports of physical assault, including attacks on journalists covering the polls.
At least 15 polling stations in Kazo-Angola Parish did not submit results to the Electoral Commission due to disruptions, leading to the failure to declare a winner for the vacant Kazo-Angola councillor seat.
At Kawempe Mbogo Primary School playground, where Faridah Nambi voted, security forces reportedly assaulted voters and attempted to seize a ballot box. Todwong revealed that during a meeting held on Friday in Entebbe, the 4th Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the NRM party discussed the election results and concluded that much of the violence was instigated by supporters and sympathizers of the National Unity Platform (NUP).
He also criticized the Electoral Commission’s decision to cancel results from several polling stations, stating that it denied approximately 50,000 registered voters their democratic right to freely participate in the election.
“We are not going to cover up anybody. Whoever was involved must be investigated because the NRM stands as a pillar of democracy where we exercise freedom of choice and participation,” Todwong remarked.
He added that the NRM was not responsible for the actions of security forces who brutalized journalists and voters, noting that the party had no control over security operations during the election, which was under the jurisdiction of the Electoral Commission.
In response, Lewis Rubongoya, ssecretary general of the National Unity Platform, accused the NRM of hypocrisy, arguing that much of the violence during the election was orchestrated by NRM agents.
Rubongoya welcomed the NRM’s decision to go to court, describing it as an opportunity for NUP to present all the evidence they have collected. He also called on the government to conduct forensic investigations into the events at Kazo-Angola Parish, where the results of 15 polling stations remain uncounted, as well as the incidents that occurred at the Mbogo Primary School playground polling station.
With the NRM preparing to challenge the results in court, political tensions continue to simmer, with both parties accusing each other of electoral misconduct.

Let Todwong start from the nomination day when Nalukoola was beaten right after nomination, the DPC of wandegeya caught on camera punching a man going to attend Nalukoolaz rally, uniformed and armed men people beating people simply bcoz they were opting to attend another rally, not that Faridah Nambi the daughter of kigongo
Wow !
This is an interesting one , of a thief taking himself to court.
I think Mzee Haji Nadduli hit it straight when he said ” we , the original NRA who really know how and why we took power in 1986 have been ignored and left outside , now the ones that we defeated have come in pretending to have surrended …. they are the ones killing NRM from inside; they feed Museveni with all sorts of wrong information”
This is exactly where Todwong comes in. Deep down , Todwong knows he is nothing but a mere decoration in other people`s kitchen. He just cannot decide nothing !
Waw! Mzee Hajji Nadduli said exactly what it is. Becoming yes men, join and fight from within.
With all the heavy military arsenal we saw as if there was a world war or lethal terrorists dehumanizing people especially NUP supporters, you come out to say you were cheated. Seriously no shame. The whole process was heavily guarded by UPDF, JATTA goons, ISO etc, Any person born with the right hinges in their head cannot believe you. Stop making yourselves look and sound ridiculous. It is not your entitlement to win all election in this country. Mulindwa you sounded and looked comic on TV yesterday
Oh Mulindwa ! That guy is not very intelligent. It did not help him that he was on the same panel with sharp Goreth Namugga. She made him look foolish . That young lady is awesome.
Ha ha ha..! Whoever thinks that you can beat up people including MPs and expect them to vote for you, then you need to have your heads examined by a psychiatrist.
Foolery of the highest order
I really hope that this mess is taken before the court. Only there and then will all the dirt come to the surface; people will be unmasked.
I see NUP advocates showing hundreds on videos that will reveal things the NRM agents did that were better left hidden.
I see Muhoozi Kainerugaba being cross-examined by the defence for the tweets he put out , tweets that are relevant to the invents that took place in Kawempe.
I see the now unknown commander/s of JATT in that court.( without the mask)
I see Nabbanja being asked to prove the allegations she made.
I see the defence using some of the statement that Museveni made in his latter in which he aknowledged the presence of “lethar forces” and how this might have affected the whole proccess. ( Remember NRM is accusing NUP )
I see Nambi`s video in which she blames JATT and the other security forces for the violence that caused the voters to stay away.
I see more than 59 people , including members of the media testifying that they were beated up by armed security forces
I see videos showing RDCs kicking ballot boxes and ordering members of the electrol commission to leave the area.
Kent, you summed it well. The thief is now crying wolf. Looking forward to the cinema and please those covering the event feed us all little morsels we might have missed and let all masked shadows be exposed.
Marc Mae , there is lot that has not been seen yet
DR forms , for example , tell a very interesting story. NRM thieves seemed to be under so much pressure they did not care how they did it.
For example , polling station where Nambi got 24 votes ( on RD forms confirmed and signed on) , NRM agents at the tally centre added 2– to make it look like Nambi got 224 votes, which they announced . What they forgot was to change Nalukoola`s votes at that particular polling station , thus inflating the number of those who cast their vote at that station by 200 !
BTW: this is what they did in Kayunga . This time , it did not work.
Something else that will soon come out is that Todwong , Tango Odoi , Sseninde , Kiwanda and all those so called NRM spokesmen come to the realization that the Supreme Ruler is mentally exhausted and is no longer interested in deep thinking; so they have learnt to manipulate him , both emotionally and financially.
They tell him that if he injects billions here and there , they would deliver Buganda and Busoga starting in Kawempe ( Even Betty Kamya promised 85 % for NRM in Kampala !! )
When Kawempe did not happen , Jajja got frustrated . That explains why he is asking questions -questions that Todwong and their master`s manipulators are trying to provide , through yet more manipulation and deception.
Even a 12 year old in Kampala knows that there is no way NRM can win in Kawempe . Since the 1980 elections up to date, Kawempe ( or Kampala north) no sitting government has won a seat there.
Who in his/her right state of mind can still deny that Hon Todwong (twol dwong), is after all a fool and not as intelligent as he thought he was ?
In other words, there are two ways of being a “Certified Fool”: one is to believe what is not true and the other is to refuse to believe what is true.
Mr Lakwena, indeed Uganda is now upside down intellectually because of such ” Certified fools” who are inclined to believe what is not true, and completely disinclined to believe what is true.. This is simply a kind of foolishness that will turn catastrophic soon on this country. Why cant that money going to be spent on court appeals be used to build a health centre or a school ?
