NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi

The Electoral Commission has reportedly informed the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) that it failed to submit the sufficient number of signatures required to nominate its presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi-Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine.

NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya expressed surprise at the announcement’s timing, just days before the nomination deadline. He accused the commission of seeking to block Kyagulanyi’s candidacy, noting that the party had been requesting updates on the verification process without response.

“We’ve been following up with the Electoral Commission for updates on signature verification so we can pay the nomination fees and proceed with nominating our candidate. Just a few minutes ago, we received word from the commission that NUP didn’t submit the required signatures,” Rubongoya said.

According to him, NUP submitted signatures from more than 98 districts, but the EC insists they are insufficient. He added that intimidation of supporters who endorsed NUP has made it difficult to mobilise replacements.

“They’re claiming that only Museveni and a few others have met the signature requirement, despite NUP submitting well in advance. We believe this is a ploy to play games and frustrate us. We are still waiting because they said they would provide the detailed report on this,” Rubongoya added.

EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi could not be reached for comment. Under the EC’s roadmap, presidential candidates with verified signatures will be nominated on September 23 and 24 at the new EC offices in Lweeza.

Meanwhile, Kyagulanyi has announced plans to hold nomination rallies at Katwe Playground and Natete. He said the NUP secretariat has already notified police of the gatherings, stressing they are within the law.

“Museveni is also being nominated on the same day, and his party has organized a rally at Kololo Independence Ground, which is within the law; similarly, we will hold our nomination rally at Katwe Playground, and afterwards, we’ll proceed to Natete to address the people,” Kyagulanyi said.

“We’ve already notified the police in writing, and there’s nothing unlawful about it.” Kyagulanyi has called on NUP supporters from over 36 districts to go NUP offices on Saturday to submit their signatures. He claims security operatives have been calling and intimidating their supporters who previously signed to deny ever signing for his nomination.

  1. In other words, it is as if NUP didn’t know what to do the last time in 2020, when Kyagulanyi was nominated.

Otherwise, it was the shocker from out of the BLUE, when Hon Kyagulanyi and NUP candidates made Mr. M7 and many of NRM MP candidates in Buganda ran for their money and lost their political shirts and skirts during the 2021 Gen Election when especially Buganda and Busoga were swept from under his feet.

Therefore, this time around our 85-years-old PROBLEM OF AFRICA, Gen Tibuhaburwa is even more terrified to lose more votes.

Hence among others, in order to prevent Kyagulanyi/NUP from participating, are the current abduction of Bobi’s aids/strongmen/women, and the EC’ by hook or crooks and caprice such as the changes of the dates of the constitutional Roadmap .

  2. Lakwena, thanks, but,

Going to next useless fake presidential election will mean Robert Kyagulanyi & all other opposition leaders are bent on ensuring Rwandese Museveni’s ownership of Uganda legally, officially, constitutionally!

If Robert Kyagulanyi really wants to help Ugandans get back the zone formed by their tribal lands is calling for an end to the inhuman, divisive tribalistic system, then singing Ugandans to UNITY!

Museveni knew the tribalistic system would make Ugandans POWERLESS, but make him a STRONG lifetime ruler with or without fake presidential election!

Only UNITED Ugandans with just ONE of them as Nationa/Common Leader, will have the power to show Museveni way out, then be FREE to form the kind of governance they want without armed war!

Once Ugandans UNITE, will Museveni hold on & from which tribal land will he fight to come back from & which tribes will join him?

Ugandans, please, DO NOT join any so called opposition leaders as they are bent on ensuring Rwandese Museveni’s ownership of Uganda, thus make you his slaves for good!

No real opposition leader in today world go for fake elections, especially to ensure 45 years of a self styled god & owner of their land, especially not a migrant!

    Ugandans, please WAKE UP, NOW!

  3. {The Electoral Commission has reportedly informed the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) that it failed to submit the sufficient number of signatures required to nominate its presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi-Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine.}

This is the best news ever as Kyagulanyi-Ssentamu is bent on ensuring Rwandese Museveni’s ownership of Uganda, thus enslavement of Ugandans constitutionally, with fake presidential election!

If Kyagulanyi-Ssentamu was a real opposer to Museveni, he would have called for an end to the tribalistic system & sang Ugandans to UNITY a while ago!

Museveni will rule, own tax money with or without fake presidential election, so why go for next useless fake presidential election to ensure he’s protected constitutionally for 45 years?

  4. Such are these Uganda national elections that cannot be recognised all over the world. It is common sense that if voters are intimidated in their homes to sign some papers for all sorts of dodgy self-styled politicians, would that not mean that such souls have already voted at their homes? One cannot understand why the Kingdom state of Buganda is being played on about with such political illegalities where even human rights seem to have lost any respect! Keeping quite so that such iniquities will go away does not add up!

    1. Kabayekka, packed in yellow crates and loaded on a tractor trailer, remember when submitting the Nomination Form and required signatures for OUR PROBLEM OF AFRICA to the EC Office; Todwong (too many deaths) and Odoi Tanga bragged that the over 2 million signatories therein, were already the guaranteed votes to Gen Tibuhaburwa.

In other words, the 2026 General Election rigging has already been completed.

As they say it, the rest up to the D-day is history and everything else is a waste of time and our sweat and blood tax money.

      It hurts!
