Heavy clashes erupted on Tuesday between the March 23 Movement (M23) rebels and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), along with coalition forces, on multiple fronts in South Kivu province.
The fighting was reported in Katogota-Luvungi, Kaziba-Haut Plateau, Tchivanga-Hombo, and Kasika-Mwenga areas in Uvira territory, according to local sources, prompting massive displacement of civilians.
Bertrand Bisimwa, president of M23, confirmed the fighting in a brief statement. The group’s political spokesperson, Lawrence Kanyuka, accused FARDC and coalition forces of launching attacks, describing the situation as catastrophic and worsening by the minute.
“From the early hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the coalition forces of the Kinshasa regime launched widespread attacks against densely populated areas and along the entire front line. These particularly intense assaults are concentrated along Katogota-Luvungi, Kaziba-Haut Plateau, Tchivanga-Hombo, and Kasika-Mwenga. The situation is catastrophic and deteriorating by the minute,” said Kanyuka.
Both parties have previously blamed each other for violations of ceasefire agreements facilitated in Doha, Qatar. On November 8, 2025, the M23/AFC rebels and the DR Congo government signed a framework agreement in Doha to continue negotiations toward a comprehensive peace deal.
The framework outlines the development of specific protocols, but fighting has continued, challenging the agreement’s viability. M23 currently controls large parts of North and South Kivu provinces, including Goma and Bukavu cities, Goma international airport, and Kavumu airport.
Since the group’s resurgence in 2022, led by Bertrand Bisimwa and Emmanuel Sultan Makenga, the DRC government has repeatedly accused Rwanda of supporting the rebels, a claim both Rwanda and M23 deny. The rebels insist their struggle targets corruption, xenophobia, and discrimination within the Congolese leadership.
This article presents a distorted account of the events in South Kivu and reflects a narrative closely aligned with the Rwanda-backed M23/AFC militia. Verified field contacts report that RDF/M23/AFC forces began reinforcing their positions in Kaziba and Kamanyola last week, likely in preparation for the hostilities now unfolding. According to these sources, the initial attacks were launched by Rwanda-backed M23 elements—not by the FARDC or its allied forces.
The offensive targeted multiple civilian areas in Kaziba, Kamayola-Katogota in South Kivu and even in some villages in North kivu , compelling the FARDC (government forces) to respond in order to protect local populations. The article’s framing obscures this sequence of events and misleads readers about the origins and nature of the violence. Accurate and balanced reporting remains critical, particularly in a context where misinformation puts civilians at risk and undermines ongoing peace efforts.
Citizen, the M23 is deploying the famous Roman FABIAN TACTICS: it was same tactic, the NRA and RPA deployed to overrun government forces and captured power (Uganda and Rwanda) respectively.
According to the Fabian tactics; “… it involves avoiding decisive
battles and instead using harassment, skirmishes, and attacks on supply lines to deplete the enemy’s resources and morale over time. This strategy is typically used by a weaker force that believes time is on its side, such as when the enemy is far from home and has long supply lines.
E.g., although it is a Super Power, Russia (Putin) is using the same tactic to bog down Ukraine, through bogus meetings, especially through the US.
In other words, as rebel groups; when WEAK and VULNERABLE, they enter into a phoney Cease fire, endless PEACE TALK, like e.g., the Nairobi Peace JOKE the Arusha Peace talk and/or sign a BOGUS AGREEMENT and then a SURPRISE STRIKE.
That is the trend. Therefore, if the FARDC CONTINUES taking the peace talks/Jokes with the M23 SERIOUSLY, it/CONGOLESE PEOPLE will live to REGRET because, the Eastern DRC is about to be SECEDED and ANNXED by RWANDA! Just like Putin wants the STRATEGIC PIECE of Ukraine by force and/dubious negotiations.
