Kyagulanyi in Buyende

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader and presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, has set an ambitious target of creating 10 million jobs over the next five years if elected in 2026.

Unveiled yesterday at St. Gonzaga Kagoma Primary School’s playground in Jinja, the 94-page document outlines 11 priority areas that Kyagulanyi says will “restore Uganda to its rightful promise.”

Restoring Freedom and Rule of Law

Opening with a call to “restore freedom, constitutionalism and human rights,” Kyagulanyi pledges to end the trial of civilians in military courts, free political prisoners, reinstate presidential term and age limits, and reduce executive powers over the judiciary. Gender equality, he said, will be “non-negotiable.”

Slashing Corruption and Waste

His second priority tackles corruption and wasteful expenditure, promising to downsize cabinet, state house staff, and parliament.

“The savings,” Kyagulanyi said, “will be redirected to health, education and other essential services that actually touch people’s lives.”

Healing a Fractured Nation

Under the banner of national unity, the manifesto promises equal opportunities regardless of ethnicity or political affiliation, and compensation for communities scarred by past conflicts. “Uganda’s wounds are deep,” he told supporters, “but we can heal together.”

Jobs, Schools, and Land

Jobs take centre stage in the fifth priority, where Kyagulanyi vows to create 10 million new opportunities by 2032, leveraging manufacturing, tourism, sports and the creative economy.

Other pledges include:

Universal access to services such as health care, water, energy and infrastructure. A school feeding programme to improve pupil concentration while boosting farmers’ incomes.

Equitable land rights to curb land grabbing and illegal evictions.

Stronger, better-funded local governments to deliver services effectively.

Diaspora, Resources and Technology

The final priorities look outward and forward, positioning Uganda’s diaspora as a strategic asset, promoting sustainable management of natural resources so host communities share mineral wealth, and transforming the country into a tech-driven economy built on innovation and local talent.

The Busoga Test

Kyagulanyi heads today to Kamuli and Buyende to sell his message. In 2021, he dominated most of Busoga but fell short in Buyende, a district where President Yoweri Museveni still enjoys strong backing.

Analysts then blamed limited reach, citing weak communication networks and COVID-19 restrictions. This time, the ground is more contested. Presidency minister Milly Babalanda and Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) president Moses Magogo, who doubles as NRM chairperson in Buyende, are expected to rally support for the ruling party.

Kyagulanyi insists, however, that NUP’s policies, benchmarked against reforms that lifted other low-income countries, “speak directly to the needs of ordinary Ugandans.”

  1. All this stuff is all about political gamblers or punters who are betting on the Ugandan citizens expectations about better economic times ahead for this nation! Who in his or her right mind can hope to indulge into 10 million jobs and start paying back in tax the trillions of national and international debts the NRM has eaten left, right and center and failed to pay back in the last 40 years and counting? Abafuzi ba Africa tebabalamu bantu babwe magezi?

  2. At this moment, Uganda as well as rest of the world is at crisscross from corrupt leadership that has indulged into witch hunt and witchcraft to keep in power. I believe there is transformation taking place in both the spiritual and physical world. Bobi has the opportunity and ability to be the leader who can bridge the youth and older the generation, also being a ghetto kid he could unit the divided nation that’s based on tribalism. Many Ugandans are now like ghetto kids that have been left behind on the national cake. Bobi on behalf my brother who passed away in Mbarara under unclear circumstance, thank you for going to pick the souls of Basoga from Mbarara returning them to Busoga, above all heading to Buyende our home town, I believe my ancestors waved at you as you drove by. Now as you seek their blessings and endorsement remember the mistakes of the past leaders. Obote(RIP) and this regime has used Basoga including their ancestral roots/powers and dumped their children souls in the Nile to float away in total poverty and despair. DON’T DO IT TOO! I believe Bobi will win with over 70% though I am afraid there could be plan B of military coup that could be stage before election to extend the ruling party. We should ask why is Besigye still being locked up…. He is the only person who could fight or stop it. I hope my dream that I heard of bodies laying on the street of Kampala in January doesn’t come to pass. Praying for mother Uganda. My request to soldiers and Ugandans, Please no more blood! Remember each person killed you create pain and hatred with his/her family. Why would you want to be that person who create indirect pain and hatred? It’s not worthy.

  3. When does this foolishly partisan police block the yellow band? I hope you pay for your sins against the citizens.

So, there’s a fresher and more optimistic outlook for a possibly better Uganda after the satire of 40 years and yet a few backward seekers are coming out in great doubt? Are you abating the very 40-years-old establishment that you frequently bash? Save for a marriage where you’re basically tied together for life, in this case of presidency I would rather listen to serious strategy for a fresher outlook and look forward to making it happen than to continue with this 40-years-old ship that has basically lost direction (bordering on dementia); you can see this now that this decades-long ship is relying on witchcraft and cash drips to impoverished groups to create idolatry. There’s no new promise guys!! It’s more of protecting their gains by dropping out a few pennies to the sycophants while they selfishly consolidate their enterprise to their own future generations! Yes, they possibly now have millions who are desperately praying for a no change as this ensures they continue with the soft lavish enjoyments at the expense of the rest of us. You can see a certain green flag that joined that camp, tasted of the bigger cash drips and then decided to sellout in exchange for something; this is the ultimate treason!

Unless we recklessly don’t care anymore about our country, the resources we have and the future, we need a serious reset like yesterday. That’s why we always needed a terms limit in the first place!!
