Police constable Issac Alioma from Kijomoro police post first shot dead his wife Beatrice Maturu before turning the gun on himself. The incident happened on Tuesday night in Yiba village in Robu Parish in Oleba sub-county, Maracha district.
Alioma allegedly killed himself shortly after shooting Maturu dead at around 9:30 pm inside their house. According to the locals, the incident happened a few hours after Maturu and other clan members returned from the Arua district, where they had gone to attend a funeral.
It is alleged that Alioma had earlier signed for the gun from his duty station at Kijomoro police post along Arua-Koboko road to report for duty but instead boarded a vehicle to Yiba village where he shot his wife dead before ending his life. Their two-year-old baby was found inside the house unhurt.
Wilson Madira, the brother of the deceased constable suspects that Alioma could have been prompted to end his life following a domestic brawl. He explains that the couple has been feuding for the past few months over allegations of infidelity.
“It’s very sad. we didn’t know what was happening but only discovered their bodies at around midnight,” he said.
Police visited the crime scene and recovered the gun and five cartridges. Police handed over the deceased’s bodies to their relatives for burial after postmortem. A Special Forces Command (SFC) officer Pte Allan Matsiko shot himself dead over the weekend while on guard duties in Entebbe Municipality. The previous week, Claver Bagabe, a Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) captain in Kisoro district committed suicide by shooting himself dead.
