PM Rugunda tasks minister Odongo on Kibwetere massacre

Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda

The Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda has sought parliament’s consideration to have the minister of Internal Affairs Gen. Jeje Odongo present an action-taken report on the Kibwetere massacre as well as compensation for the orphans.

Parliament was expecting the premier to present the report on Thursday but in his absence, the government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa delivered a message in which Rugunda seeks to have Odongo present the status report at a later stage.

This did not go well with speaker Rebecca Kadaga who noted that parliament had directed Rugunda to present the statement since a number of her communications to his office on the matter had not been responded to. But Kadaga hastened to add that minister Odongo should prepare to present a statement on the matter.

On August 26, Kadaga gave Rugunda a two-week ultimatum to present before the House an action taken report on the Kibwetere massacre as well as compensation for orphans.

She made the directive following a petition from a group of orphans whose parents died on March 17, 2000, in a fire blamed on a religious cult known as the Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God led by Joseph Kibwetere.

It is estimated that 778 believers who had gathered in the church building in Kanungu were burnt after they allegedly locked themselves inside the building. The cult believed that the world would come to an end at the turn of the millennium.

In their petition, the ‘Kanungu Opharns Group’ indicated that they had been denied access to the site where their parents were buried and that no report on the investigations into the fire had been availed to them 20 years later.

Parliament previously recommended to government to provide support to the affected persons and according to Kadaga, her letters dated 2nd September 2019 and 17th February 2020 to the prime minister were also in regard to demands for compensation by the orphans and other survivors.

To date, there has not been any prosecution in connection to the Kanungu massacre and none of the cult leaders has been found.

I dont think Ugandans are interested in that comedy, we want to know what happened, what went wrong, with all the spy network in this country, how could such a crime happen undetected unless it had a hand of the Government.

Why is it that the burnt bodies were all of men and were found to be circumcised. Could they have been Muslims linked to the ADF.

For the information of readers, private parts of a man do not burn with just an ordinary fire. Secondly, how come there were skulls found in the nearby cave.

The Government was given a report on the findings but the same just like many others like that of Kayira have been hidden to date.

Now somebody is coming up with excuses to come to parliament to make a statement on the same in passing and then confuse it with a plan to compensate orphans.

Which orphans, many of these bodies were never claimed, they were buried in a mass grave, so which orphans are you talking about that you want to compensate. where are these orphans and how old are they.

Some of us believe that Mwerinde, Kataribabo and Kibwetere are fictitious only intend to cover up the murders. How come they have never been found yet they did not die in the inferno. If the Teso and the Luwero Claimants have never been compensated, how can they compensate this none existent new group.

To date, there has not been any prosecution in connection to the Kanungu massacre and none of the cult leaders has been found...Arson in the History of Notorious Robbers Army began with Burning Republic House which was Housing All Documents purporting Crimes committed by Rutabayisirwa during his Covert Operations against Government and His Credentials as a Refugee in Uganda...Meaning Destroying Evidence!!!

Since then We have been seeing Fires gutting Owino Market then Buddo School all intending to pave way to some Grabbing of Land or Vicinity like the Nakivubo Complex owned by Ham..and Movit having Stolen Buddo land!!

All killings and Crimes will be re-investigated by another Administration!! Luwero is still waiting for Compensation of 800.000 Butchered Ugandans..

This man in thin spects has been changing Ministries in government since the first day Museveni came out of his bush.

He knows more about the killings in Uganda than what he wants Ugandans to believe. He was a doctor here in Kampala- when his friend, Museveni was killing people all over the country- while giving informations to the robbers.

In a developed country, it is quite impossible to be a Minister for over thirty years without a break.

An educated man would simply resign from office if the man with whom he is working has not only failed his country, but when people continue to be killed like flies.

If they are not responsible for all the killings in the country, how come they have found it hard to leave Office to younger generations who are well versed with their problems? We are tired of hard core liars, a generation of killers, and who people who take Ugandans for fools.

Time will come when you will be brought to book.

If Parliament approves money for aid, that's apparently what the orphans are asking for, will it reach them without an insane person running away with it?

Would it be better to establish the identity of the "orphans" using DNA tests first!!! Tax payers money could go into the wrong hands!!!
