Security personnel on Thursday night switched off Hope Radio in Kabale municipality over hosting Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leaders.

The leaders were Dr Kizza Besigye the former FDC president, Ingrid Turinawe, the FDC chairperson of the Women's League, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the party president, William Nzoghu, the Busongora North MP and Roland Mugume Kaginda, the MP for Rukungiri Municipality who is also the FDC’s deputy president in charge of western region.

They had returned from Rubanda district to launch the revival of the party’s grass root mobilisation campaign. The two-hour talk show which started at 7:30 pm had lasted for only 30 minutes. Allan Twongyeirwe, the talk-show host says that before the show started, he received a phone call from Darius Nandiinda, the Kabale resident district commissioner (RDC) ordering him not to host the FDC leaders.

Twongyeirwe also says that he was surprised when the radio lost the signal during the show. According to Twongyeirwe, Nandiinda had ordered Uganda People Defense Forces (UPDF) soldiers at 19th Battalion in Kihumuro hill, where the transmitter and the mast are installed, to switch off the radio.

The radio is owned by Bishop Aloysius Kiiza, the Bishop of Lift Up Jesus Ministries. It covers the entire Kigezi sub-region, parts of Ankole, northern Rwanda and Tanzania and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

Dr Joseph Tindyebwa, the FDC deputy national secretary general in charge of policy and research says that the radio was switched off after Besigye started explaining how former Hong Kong Home Affairs minister Patrick Ho Chi-ping was recently handed a three year sentence in United States of America after he was found guilty of offering a $500,000 bribe to Foreign Affairs minister Sam Kutesa and $2 million to Chad's President Idriss Deby.

The radio station was later switched on at 8:30 pm after Besigye and his group had left. Nandiinda declined to comment on the matter when contacted. In September 2017, Besigye was blocked from entering Voice of Kigezi to conduct a live show on land matters. The radio management argued that they had been directed by Nandiinda not to allow him to appear on the airwaves.

In July 2015, the MP for Jinja Municipality West who also doubles as NRM chairman for the district, Moses Balyeku ordered staff at his Baba FM to switch off the radio station which had started to transmit a live talk show where Besigye had gone to feature as a guest.

In November 2009, Besigye was blocked from appearing on Nenah FM in Karamoja to address the public. In May 2007, the Kitgum-based Kitti FM was switched off air 30 minutes after Besigye had started speaking on the radio’s talk-show. The radio’s generator was switched off, reportedly on the orders of the then area RDC.

Quoting Markson:
Besigye sometimes totally amuses me,,,, the many years he has spent in the game but totally failing to think outside of the box,,,,so many ways of transmitting his message across the population but failing to do so.

I agree. He is not that smart, is he? Anyway, he was involved from the beginning in causing / creating the political problems that we face, and he cannot & should not be the solution for the way ahead, can / should he?

Lakwena, agreed, but,

It's the people's power that forces useles rulers out & not opposition leaders, but the people need opposition leadership!

UN ITY of Algerians made army realise it's not them, but the people, who have the power, without taking to arms nor being violent!

Why is the tribalistic system still standing when Ugandans say they want Museveni out & what will they do without him as there is no common national leadership, tribal leaders look up to the demon for answers to their position/posts/pay...?

Why have opposition parties/leaders not mergered, if they really want Museveni out?

Why have tribal leaders not formed Independent Tribal States & become real leaders & save their people from Museveni?

Kelly, agreed!

It's time Ugandan join the rest of the world in fight for respect, good rule, just living!

Why is the tribalistic system still standing, when Ugandans now know they are alone with the demon as long as tribal leaders are in posts?

Why are there still +1 opposition leaders helping divide an already divided people to ensure Museveni just goes on?

To whom does Uganda fromed by tribal lands belong?

Algerian opposition leaders are silent because they know UNITY of a people is what it takes to bring change, without giving chance to demons to use army against a people!

Will UNITY let Museveni go with tribal lands, tax money & will the army go with him to his tribal land?

Why is Museveni still in State House?

Daudi, understood, but,

As long as Ugandans go along with Museveni, all those in posts will ensure their pays & do what it takes to be in good term with the demon!

Either Ugandans bring down the tribalistic system & UNITE or they MUST go for Independent Tribal States!

Divided Ugandans cannot go for next fake election as no other than Museveni will win!

No more election of mps either as long as Museveni goes on as this legalises his position & it's Ugandans doing so for him!

No elections under dictators bring in another, but legitimise their position while shuting out the outside world & this is worse for Ugandans as they maintain the tribalistic system!

Ugandans MUST think of the next generation & give chance to decency - it's the people who bring chance & in UNITY, Uganda is no exception!

Ugthinker, understood, but,

Uganda needs EVERY BODY & NOW, if Museveni is to be thrown out!

After Museveni is thrown out in UNITY we will get at one another, knowing we are all at home & Museveni won't take advantage of our anger against one another to just go on enslaving us, owning our tax money, using army against us...till he drops dead of old age!

UNITY NOW & Museveni will be out, then we will be FREE to render accoutns to one another.

The only topic of discussion is UNITY & tribal leaders should be the first to know this as land riches belong to Ugandans & MUST be managed correctly to serve everybody, in whatever kind of governance Ugandans will go for!

Quoting Odongkara:

The supreme court is Museveni's tool.

Every institution, including parliament, is controlled by Museveni & will be so as long as Ugandans go for fake elections!

For how much long will we entertain the world long with out miseries under the migrant we were kind enough to give shelter to?

Why is it normal that Museveni treats Ugandans like invaders of the country?

Why is the tribalistic system still standing when no tribe is allowed to say a word & all are slaves of Museveni?

Not 1 tribe has leadership to break FREE & live decently, quietly, but all are so gifted in ensuring Museveni just goes on as all are alright with the tribalistic system that gives no chance to UNITY against the common enemy!

Odongkara, agreed!

Either Ugandans UNITE to throw Museveni out, or form Independen Tribal States; elections blind the world of the situation as it's Ugandans giving Museveni chance over & over to rig while they go peacefully ensuring tax money for the demon!

What end do Ugandans want, Libyan or Algerian?

Where will Museveni & his warriors fight back from this time?

Very funny and womanish for the regime. Men can have their hands tied at their backs if they're to compete favourably against women in a football match.

So here is the Ugandan opposition left with zero space for mobilization while their competitor is busy, even using state resources to mobilize and solicit for votes. Very funny!

Its the right of Ugandans to learn about the morality of those governing them.

If to some people corruption is normal ,universally it remains a crime.

Quoting Ugthinker:
The restraints directed at Dr Besigye is telling on who this government is more scared of in as far as getting Ugandans out of the prison of ignorance!

If all Ugandans could see the competences of KB, the likes of Abed Bwanika wouldn’t even wasting anyone’s time!

Ugthinker, Abed Bwanika is only person who does not know that every Ugandan knows that he is the confusing agent and perennial spoiler, planted by Mr. M7.

In other words, except being clinically mad, Abed Bwanika can't fool anybody except himself.
