Buvuma district senior accountant Joseph Kisitu is reportedly on the run after swindling more than Shs 14 million meant for paying the allowances of LC I and II chairpersons.
Buvuma chief administrative officer, Joseph Kisubi wrote to the district police commander on January 14, seeking his intervention to track down the missing officer. In his letter referenced "Disappearance of a civil servant with public funds", Kisubi explains that Kisitu received Shs 14,028,000 in May 2018, to pay honoraria allowances to LC1 and II in the 2017/2018 financial year.
But to date, the officer has never provided accountability.
"Several verbal and written communications to Mr Kisitu Joseph (while he was still around and attending to duty) instructing him to account for or refund the money have been made, but without any success so far," reads the letter.
He explains that Kisitu promised before the district executive committee to refund the money within two week's time but that hasn't happened.
"The officer has disappeared from work and his known telephone numbers are all not available," the letter adds.
According to the letter, the principal assistant secretary, Ismael Kabonge, who deputises the chief administrative officer, went to Kisitu's home in Nabuti cell in Mukono cell but he wasn't there. He asked police to help track down the officer and recover the missing funds. The letter is copied to Buvuma LC V chairperson, Alex Mabirizi, resident district commissioner Agnes Nabirye and her deputy.
