FILE Eddie Mutwe with Robert Kyagulanyi

Edward Ssebuufu, aka Eddie Mutwe and the personal bodyguard to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, has been formally charged with six counts of robbery and assault by the Masaka Magistrate’s court.

Mutwe was abducted by security operatives from Mukono district on April 27, 2025, and held incommunicado for several days. His detention was only acknowledged last week by Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who admitted Mutwe was being held in his basement.

On Monday, Mutwe was presented before the court under tight security, escorted by plain-clothed armed operatives driving a white Toyota Hiace commonly referred to as a “drone.”

He appeared in court limping, dressed in a dark blue shirt and black jeans folded up to the knees, supported by two men. Masaka grade one magistrate Abudallah Kayiza read out six charges of aggravated robbery, robbery, and assault which are alleged to have taken place in May 2024 during the burial of UK-based businessman Pascal Ssekasamba at Manja village in Kisekka sub-county, Lwengo district.

Mutwe was taken into the magistrate’s chambers for a closed-door session attended only by his lawyer Magellan Kazibwe and state attorney Michael Wakosesa where charges were read to him.

According to the charge sheet, Mutwe will be tried alongside three other members of Kyagulanyi’s security team; Achilleo Kivumbi, Grace Wakabi alias Smart-wa-Bobi, and Gadafi Mugumya who were charged in February and are currently on remand at Masaka Central Prison.

The group is accused of assaulting journalists during the burial, including damaging a video camera belonging to Zainabu Namusaazi of Next Media Group and destroying a smartphone belonging to Radio Simba correspondent Margret Kayondo.

They also face accusations of stealing two smartphones, robbing Shs 200,000, and causing grievous bodily harm to three individuals allegedly using sharp bayonets. State attorney Wakosesa noted that additional suspects are still at large and will be charged jointly once apprehended.

Magistrate Kayiza remanded Mutwe to Masaka Central Prison until May 25, 2025, when court will review the progress of investigations. Mutwe’s legal team has indicated plans to petition the court to allow the suspect access to medical care pending prosecution.

  1. Fellow Ugandans, as long as we keep going to war [bogus & violent elections] with M7, his family, relatives, tribesmen and militants, Mutwe won’t be first or the last to kidnapped, tortured and/persecuted. To M7, bogus & violent elections is a war and M7 is always armed to teeth. Just look at the recently concluded Kawempe byelection. Mambas were deployed! On the other we, the opposition, don’t even have a stone when we go to war.
In a new song by Nubiam Lee, King and Kyagulanyi, they sing about a broken system which doesn’t function. In fact Kyagulanyi clearly sings therein that, that has been the case for 4 decades now.
Furthermore, Uganda has been at war ever since M7 came on the political scene. We, as a nation, have never been at peace. In that song, they talk about corruption, which is now a norm in Uganda, Kyagulanyi subscribes to it by the fact th at he earns a living from taxpayers money for doing nothing. In that same song, Kyagulanyi sings, I’m not your enemy, don’t look at me badly. I’m telling what you see.” Just like in that song, this is for me and you, l’m not an enemy of change, neither the enemy of Kyagulanyi and NUP, but I’m showing you what you see.
Mutwe was abducted and tortured. Now, he is being charged on trumped charges. Is he the first one? Just like in that song, Kyagulanyi has been in that “boat” also. He was kidnapped, tortured and then charged.
In that song they talk about preventing the boat [Uganda] from sinking!
Kyagulanyi, we have sunk to rock botton! Look at Mutwe, to whom Muhoozi admitted abducting and tortured because the war, bogus & violent elections! Muhoozi said, you’re next.
However, you’re also saying, nexed “war.” In other words, you’re only interested in bogus and violent elections because of money. You’re not preventing the boat from sinking. Pure and simple.

    1. Remase, one thing I have noticed is that you do not like Bobi Wine. I have not read anything positive about him from you. Please try and be objective maybe you should have a go at that responsibility. You look like you could do much better.

  2. Beats my understanding how black Ugandans procure military training, military hardware, cash printing, other gadgets and vehicles, exotic wines, beers, & spirits, and even use foreign technology in order to become a nightmare to fellow black Ugandans while being a laughing stock to the same foreign suppliers. Then, after all is said and done, the same group ends up on the bad receiving end of same foreign suppliers while we generally the Ugandans suffer the consequences.

Of course we don’t condone behavior that infringes on others, but what am saying is …

Can you imagine that right now there’s a mass recruitment for police & prisons? And why else are they expanding the prisons, mass recruiting prison wardens, and mass recruiting police? But, why on the other hand does it seem like rocket science to provide decent healthcare & hospitals, or better education and nutrition to Ugandans? Tell me why there’s these puppet shows including court actors … and the drama of charge sheets, but look at who is really being tossed around? Do you see anything connected to the yellow bus in there? Have you seen anyone arrayed in disdain like Mr. Mutwe for the killing of the 53 civilians a few years ago when some of the pickups transporting the killers were UNRA vehicles? Or have you seen any X-post condemning the boys for the tragedy in Kawempe just a few weeks ago?

It’s interesting that there’s all this gusto in these arrests, they actually literally command the judiciary too (no wonder the judiciary is full of rotten learned fellows), and then also references to a certain tribe and a certain Mzee in those X-posts and all these publicized threats; people are itching to be FEARED and REVERED! They’re doing a great job for you! They can get you whenever they want to! lol

On the other side, while these myopic guys are desperate for attention, Uganda is busy being handed over to foreigners via all these cash handshakes of fake investors and all other things that come with it … Ugandans are in fact even much more poorer, generally, so much that occasional drips, those handouts named all sorts of names, are about to be discovered for just how bad they were.

You see? Laughing stock and then finally the “feared and revered” end up on the bad receiving end of history. By the way, these guys think they’re like gods …. but also the maize you finally harvest didn’t come from sorghum seedlings … lol

Seriously, this divided Ugandan kingdom cannot stand … don’t even try to convince me that these are the people you want to lead our country; unless you’re determined, like they are, to destroy our society.

    Let me stop here …

  3. Our self-confessed/evident criminals; 84-year-old “Problem of Africa”, Gen Tibuhaburwa and his son, Gen Muhoozi must be reminded again and again about the diaboli (abomination) of the 9th Commandment (Exodus 20:16), “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor”.

This is because, like some kind of underworld ritual; immediately after committing abominable atrocity on their innocent Ugandans victims like Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Haj Kamulegeya and the Eddie Mutwe of this country; these diabolic criminals would call for a “Thanks Giving Prayer” in our State House and invite the Archbishops, Mufti and Theatrical Pastors to preside over the occasion.

In other words, who in his/her right state of mind can still deny that Gen Muhoozi is a self-confessed criminal against humanity? With impunity, the thug abducts/ed and/or illegally hold and tortured the Kakwenza and Eddie Mutwe in his basement and publicly gloated about it.

And while his son is on unrestrained rampage torturing Mutwe in his basement, instead of condemning and putting Muhoozi in order; his father, the 84-year-old “Problem of Africa” was on a PR, public diversion congratulating his criminally raised son for a “good job” in South Sudan.

Except crime against humanity; what “GOOD JOB” can a CDF who personally abducts, illegally hold and torture the Mutwe of this country in his bloody basement/dungeon?

In other words, for those in their 60s, who in his/her right state of mind can still deny that: the eerie, bloody stained ” Nakasero State House Dungeon”, used by Amin’s notorious State Research Bureau officials to bludgeon Ugandans with a 6-pound sledge hammer, must have been dusted up and being put to use by Muhoozi, to teach Runyankole to the Mutwe of this country, until his father tells him to release them?

    Wahurura?

    1. Shhh! By the way, “P of A” says that these days “Uganda is united and peaceful” hahahahahaaa

  4. This is for the youth of Uganda. Many of you the young citizens of this country, you are blaming much of the current political mess on those who have left to you this country. Well that is alright until when your own time will come to be old citizens and the young ones at your old age will indeed have to blame you. That is why being educated these days is very important. There are so many years now when President Museveni was hunted down to be taken to the Uganda courts of law without any success. Now that he is being elected democratically by the majority of the people of this country, he is definitely able to take anybody, anyone he feels like to the courts of law most probably because he cannot kill them? It is indeed not fair for the Kingdom state of Buganda to continue to participate in the national elections that are violent and rigged. These national elections are not free and fair. They do not subscribe to human rights and the well being of African communities.

    1. Kabayekka, “It is indeed not fair for the Kingdom state of Buganda to continue to participate in the national elections that are violent and rigged.”

When Kyagulanyi and NUP won most of the seats in Buganda, it was a refraction of the entire country. It’s Buganda which brought M7 to power and has maintained him in power. All other regions are suffering way more than Buganda because, Buganda holds the capital city and all the 3 branches of govt, but most importantly where the looted money is main spent. So, if Buganda didn’t elect M7 or NRM members, it means that M7 and NRM were not elected in the other regions. That’s a given.

As you may have observed, 2021 bogus elections were the most violent all all, in which M7 killed over 150 innocent people. Mambas and all kinds of weapons were brought to bear! Yet the opposition didn’t even have a stone to counter M7’s militants. You’re right on the money, “These national elections are not free and fair.”

However, Kyagulanyi blieve that there’s democracy and the problem is Besigye who stood against M7 4 time and lost. In other words, Kyagulanyi believes that bogus and violent elections are free and fare. That’s why he is eager and passionately preparing for the next 2026 bogus & violent elections!

    2. The other day, Katikiro Mayiga said, “Uganda is full of people who feel that they are very powerful. They ‘re kidnapping innocent people, then brag/gloat about it.” I certainly appreciate that Mayiga is coming out to condemn such oppressive actions meted against Ugandans.

However, Mayaga must remember that he is the one who gave M7 the basis to continue organizing bogus and violent elections when he passionately congratulated M7 for rigging the 2016 bogus & violent elections.
Furthermore, Mayiga is protected by the SFC militants who are abducting innocent Ugandans!

Buganda must rid of itself of any strings of the govt, especially the militants. M7 compromised Buganda by providing it with M7’s militants to protect Kabaka Mutebi, Katikiro Mayiga and all other Buganda officials. He who pays the piper calls the tune. That’s why Mayiga came out to congratulate M7 for ribbing elections.

  5. Lakwena, the other day the so called LoP, Senyonyi, said that it’s Muhoozi who should be arrested and charged for abducting and torturing innocent Ugandans and further gloats about it on his X account! The other day M7 suspended both cabinet and parliament to hold NRM meetings of how they can continue winning the war [bogus and violent elections]. The question is, what good is our LoP, Senyonyi, or parliament in particular?
Like you said, it’s not only Mutwe but Kakwnza, Besigye and others are being subjected to endless political persecution with impunity!
what pains me to no end is the fact that Kyagulanyi, our leading opposition figure, and NUP, our leading opposition party in parliament, pretend that they’re preventing the boat [Uganda] from sinking! In other words, mbu, they are only trying to make us jump! Mbu, that’s why they passionately love to go to war [bogus & violent elections].
How would we ever win that war while we’re so divided to the extent that, even within our political parties, we don’t get along and can’t have a dialog. The major opposition parties and figures [NUP & FDC], Kyagulanyi v Mpuuga, Nadala Mafabi/Amuriat v Besigye and others! On the other hand, M7 and NRM are united by hook or crook, including exploiting taxpayers money, national resources, militants who are armed to teeth, to make sure that they win the war [bogus & violent elections]!

  6. You know how Hitlers hench men were hounded all over the world? This is what is in waiting for these so called untouchables of today. They forget that there is tomorrow.

    1. In other words Remase, that the Kabaka, his PM, Mayiga and all the other Traditional Leaders are body-guarded by the SFC, commanded by Gen Muhoozi means these institutions are inescapably captured and under the iron-grip of our diabolic dictator and his son.

No wonder when the Omusinga of the Bakonzo resisted the tyranny, he was arrested, jacked and humiliated like a chicken thief and exiled in Buganda for 6 years.

  8. I am glad that people who allegedly beat up journalists are being brought to book. We wait to see those who tortured journalists in Kawempe also sent to basements for language lessons and correction before presentation to the magistrates’ courts.

    1. But are they punished apart from the fact that this is just a mere show to shut up people thinking something is being done. Some of them will be given medals, promoted or transferred or retired and then given another job from retirement. Just watch it
