Bishop Serverus Jjumba President of Caritas Uganda graced the fundraising dinner

Bishop Serverus Jjumba, the president of Caritas Uganda, has urged young communities to embrace responsible parenthood, saying this is critical in reducing the rising number of vulnerable children who depend on such problems for survival.

He said this on November 28 during Caritas Uganda’s fundraising dinner at Hotel Africana in Kampala. The target is to raise Shs 200 million to support disadvantaged children with access to basic education. At the dinner organized by Caritas Uganda and the Childcare and Emergency Relief Program (CERP), more than Shs 90 million in cash and pledges was raised.

Bishop Jjumba noted during the event that Caritas offices receive daily appeals for school fees, medical care, nutrition, nutrition support, clothing, and psychosocial assistance. Bishop Jjumba stated, “We often feel overwhelmed due to the significant number of children whose futures are uncertain.”

“Uganda is facing a worrying reality. One in every four children is out of school, mostly due to poverty and the recurring emergencies. Therefore, our goal is to guarantee that underprivileged children also have the chance to attend school. Dr Benon Sekamatte, the board chairperson of the Buganda Culture and Development Foundation (BUCADEF), applauded Caritas Uganda for championing childcare initiatives.

“The girl child is the most vulnerable, but the boy child too needs attention. That is my conviction. He said, “We must also raise awareness that when you have a child, you must raise them well.”
