Iryn Namubiru (L) unveils her book

Ugandan music legend Iryn Namubiru has made her debut in the literary world with the release of her memoir, My Mother Knows.

The book chronicles her 11-year estrangement from her mother, a deeply personal story she first revealed publicly earlier this year. Namubiru initially spoke about the decade-long rift on the Tusker Multi Conversations show on YouTube, where she attributed the separation to betrayal and unresolved family conflict.

She officially launched the book on September 5, sharing the news on her X (Twitter) account. “MY MOTHER KNOWS! This is my story, this is me finally speaking! I hope you find your story in mine. Available on Amazon, Aristoc Bookshop, and Entebbe Airport Duty-Free shops,” she wrote.

The memoir offers an intimate look into Namubiru’s personal life, documenting the pain of her estrangement alongside themes of resilience, self-discovery, and valuable life lessons. She presents the book as both a personal testimony and an invitation for readers to reflect on their own family experiences.

The launch ceremony attracted some of the biggest names in Uganda’s entertainment and media industries, including Vinka, Emanuel Rwasa, Doreen Nasasira, Ykee Benda, Nince Henry, and Andrew Kyamagero, who came to celebrate the singer’s new journey as an author.

  1. We also need to hear the mother’s side, I wish she can write. I am wondering whether on the book launch there were her relatives like sister, brother or even her father.
