The Uganda Music awards (TUMA) held on Friday had a lot to offer on the red carpet.

It was a little bit less than I expected because guests decided to keep it simple and clean. The atmosphere felt like being at a wedding of rich people.

For an awards night, one would have expected many to step out of their comfort zones.  Obviously there was no accolade for the best-dressed guest or designer for the evening. If there was, it would have gone to fashion designer Fatumah Asha.

She is one to look out for this year. She pretty much owned the show thanks to her talent. She dressed a big number of guests including two beautiful gowns for one of the event’s hosts Miss Deedan. Her attention to detail up to the last stitch is impeccable.

Deedan is such a tomboy but Fatumah did her magic. I am not sure which of the two gowns I like more but I will go with the first one that blended chiffon and African fabric.

It was a perfect blend and the high slit that was chiffon on the outside opened to reveal an Ankara fabric on the inside.

More and more Ugandans are embracing clothes made in Uganda by home-based designers. It is good to see the designers stepping up their game and taking up the challenge.
