StaXpress outlets are found at Stabex petrol stations and, more recently, at Texol Energies stations. If you are lucky enough to get the perfectly cheesed and spiced version, this meal might make you forget, momentarily, about the unhealthy side of fast food.
The salty mozzarella melts into the crunchy, spiced chicken, while the soft, juicy fries complete the indulgent bite. If you are not ready for a diet cheat day, steer clear. This meal is irresistibly tempting.Â
Once you take a bite, you won’t stop until you have devoured every last piece. The salad cream dressing only adds to the sinful delight. But be warned: the combination of cheese and fries will leave you parched, leading to the temptation of pairing it with an unhealthy soft drink.
But hey, dieters are allowed a cheat day, right?
The best version of this meal can be found at StaXpress Mengo (now Texol). On the flip side, the worst rendition of the same dish, for the same price of Shs 28,000, is at Stabex Kireka.
After Texol took over the Mengo outlet, they retained most of the eatery staff, yet somehow the customer service became worse; perhaps because they are less busy. Still, it is baffling that a group of three to four waitresses could ignore a ‘potential’ customer for a whole hour (no exaggeration).
Still, the food quality at Mengo more than made up for the service issues. Tempted by the memory of that excellent meal, The Observer decided to try the same dish at Kireka.
However, what followed was a shock – the Chicken Loaded Fries went from culinary ecstasy to absolute disaster. How can the same chain produce such vastly different results?
Don’t they share the same cookbook and ingredients? Whatever the case, Kireka’s version was a complete disappointment.
