The spacious Meza Noir restaurant in Kololo joins the growing list of Kampala’s fine dining restaurants. Secluded away on Semoro road from the usual Kampala chaos and heavy traffic, you may need a car and Google Maps to get there and any poor reading of the map will make you go around in circles.
Recently, guests of Kampala Creme, a reality show running on DStv, were treated to their brief bites menu. It started off with the mini Caprese salad that included cherry tomatoes, the all-melting juicy velvety mini mozzarella balls topped with fragrant basil leaves drizzled briefly with pesto sauce.
It was a warm and saucy start to a fine dining night which was not about quantity but quality, for the food would only occupy a small fraction of the gingatic plates. Quickly after came the deep chilli-infused vegetable spring rolls.
If the Caprese salad was melting juicy, the mini chicken quiche was almost melt-flowing. It had chicken, cheese, eggs and herbs all puffed into a crusty and crispy buttery pastry shell. Perfectly matching and blending each other.
If only it had been deeply chillied like the spring rolls!
It was still perfect in its own right. The dessert came in the form of fruit skewers to wash away the cheese and buttery juices. This menu left me confused on whether I had enjoyed it or not, whether I was satiated or not. In the culinary world though, that means mission accomplished.
