Police in Manafwa district are holding a man from Bitokho village for allegedly killing his four-year-old daughter on Monday.
Neighbours say that Ben Wakoko hit Marion Nandala to death because she visited her mother, who is separated from her father, on Christmas. Wakoko had reportedly prohibited his four children from visiting their mother.
Patrick Kaukha, the village council chairman, said Wakoko was returning from the drinking joint when he attacked the minor.
“He pounced on the little girl, beating her to death while asking why she went to see ‘a wicked woman’,” Khaukha said.
Angry villagers initially attempted to attack Wakoko, but they turned their anger on his property, slashing the banana and coffee plantations and looting animals.
Loy Gift Namono, the officer in charge of criminal investigations in Manafwa, confirmed the arrest of Wakoko.
